you’ve felt it before. you just didn’t have a name for it.

swipe through and see if you recognize yourself somewhere in here ➡️

this is what we mean when we say we build social capital. it’s not a buzzword. it’s the stuff that makes the city feel like somewhere you actually belong – the favors, the introductions, the rooms that feel like home before anyone says a word.

phx is growing fast. we wanna make sure it’s also deepening.

—

CONTEXT is a phoenix-based studio. we build, support, and endorse the things this city needs.

if you’re building something that needs more context :) let’s talk!

January marks one year of CONTEXT, a studio rooted in building social capital in Phoenix, Arizona. What began as an idea became a series of shared moments, collaborations, and projects shaped by community.

In our first year, we:
	•	Hosted more than 30 gatherings and events, bringing people together to get outside, create, and connect in real life
	•	Traveled to Philadelphia, Washington, D.C., New Mexico, Texas, Arkansas, Missouri, Iowa, Minnesota, South Dakota, Wyoming, Utah, California, Oregon, Colorado, and New York to explore, get inspired, and exchange ideas
	•	Completed four projects, including a community-driven campaign for America Walks, sourced and curated locally made goods for VisionPop Media, judged two panels of creative teams for ASU Mix Center, and rebranded Active Arizona
	•	Collaborated with 50 partners, including local creatives, organizations, and hosts
	•	Welcomed two team members and relied on the help of 10 additional staff
 •	Toured more than 40 exhibitions, artist studios, and galleries. Purchased two artworks. And co-worked alongside a dozen artists.
 •	Met countless neighbors, contributors, and collaborators who helped shape what this studio is becoming.
 •	Consumed endless amounts of ginger chews, bean burritos, Spindrift (not sponsored, yet), cappuccinos, and iced lattes.

More than numbers, this year was about presence—showing up, making time, and building trust through shared experiences. We’re deeply grateful to everyone who attended an event, opened a door, shared a resource, or simply stayed curious.

Here’s to year two: deepening relationships, expanding our reach, continuing to build social infrastructure together, and creating opportunities for meaningful connections.

“Sound you can see” 🌙

That’s the idea behind Lunar Calendar (@lunarcalendaronline), a musical ensemble reimagining the live music experience by blending classical chamber music with contemporary sounds and visual art.

We had the pleasure of catching one of their performances at the Central Arts Market in Downtown Phoenix near Roosevelt Row. It was unlike anything we’ve ever experienced.

Four insanely talented musicians performed against a display of colorful lights and morphing animations, transforming the space into something that felt like mix of performance and art installation.

This wasn’t your typical sit-still-and-be-quiet concert experience either.

On the contrary, guests were encouraged to move around, dance if they felt the urge, and absorb the performance however they pleased. There was even a brief intermission to stretch, mingle, and chat with the musicians.

Oh, and did we mention it was BYOB?!

Lunar Calendar’s vision is to bring chamber music into unconventional spaces, expanding what’s possible for both musicians and audiences alike. After experiencing it firsthand, we can certainly see the appeal.

There was something wonderfully refreshing about the whole evening. The intimacy of the space, the freedom to move, the hypnotic visuals, and above all, the unbelievably talented musicians all made for an experience that felt both extraordinary and completely approachable.

It’s exactly the kind of thing we’d love to see more of in Phoenix. Something you could make a regular outing out of, whether you’re looking for a unique first date idea, or just a pleasant evening by yourself, surrounded by people who share the same appreciation for local art and music.

A huge thank you to Lunar Calendar for this unforgettable, unique Phoenix experience. Shout out to the insanely talented musicians once again: Julz and Izzy on Violin, Milz on viola, and Lorenzo on the cello.

If you haven’t experienced Lunar Calendar yet, we’d highly recommend keeping an eye out for their next performance. We’ll be sure to keep you in the loop.

More of this, please!

@statebicycleco just donated stickers and mini State Bike Lego cyclists for every Cycle AZ 66 participant. Each one is a small reminder of a big day on the Mother Road.

Join us October 17 in Kingman for a fully supported 62-mile out-and-back on Historic Route 66, celebrating the road’s centennial year. Riders of all paces are welcome, from fast A-group riders to folks there for the scenery. E-bikes too.
