“Sound you can see” 🌙

That’s the idea behind Lunar Calendar (@lunarcalendaronline), a musical ensemble reimagining the live music experience by blending classical chamber music with contemporary sounds and visual art.

We had the pleasure of catching one of their performances at the Central Arts Market in Downtown Phoenix near Roosevelt Row. It was unlike anything we’ve ever experienced.

Four insanely talented musicians performed against a display of colorful lights and morphing animations, transforming the space into something that felt like mix of performance and art installation.

This wasn’t your typical sit-still-and-be-quiet concert experience either.

On the contrary, guests were encouraged to move around, dance if they felt the urge, and absorb the performance however they pleased. There was even a brief intermission to stretch, mingle, and chat with the musicians.

Oh, and did we mention it was BYOB?!

Lunar Calendar’s vision is to bring chamber music into unconventional spaces, expanding what’s possible for both musicians and audiences alike. After experiencing it firsthand, we can certainly see the appeal.

There was something wonderfully refreshing about the whole evening. The intimacy of the space, the freedom to move, the hypnotic visuals, and above all, the unbelievably talented musicians all made for an experience that felt both extraordinary and completely approachable.

It’s exactly the kind of thing we’d love to see more of in Phoenix. Something you could make a regular outing out of, whether you’re looking for a unique first date idea, or just a pleasant evening by yourself, surrounded by people who share the same appreciation for local art and music.

A huge thank you to Lunar Calendar for this unforgettable, unique Phoenix experience. Shout out to the insanely talented musicians once again: Julz and Izzy on Violin, Milz on viola, and Lorenzo on the cello.

If you haven’t experienced Lunar Calendar yet, we’d highly recommend keeping an eye out for their next performance. We’ll be sure to keep you in the loop.

More of this, please!

My favorite part of every FORM is walking around @arcosanti_arizona watching people connect with this place, the land, and one another. The hope of our program is that different ways of participating opens new doors to discovery, and that our shared memories keep us connected long beyond the festival. Through music, art, conversations with strangers, looking at stars, sharing meals, listening and stillness, making things, getting wild on the “dance floor” and even overcoming challenges together, we emerge with a greater feeling of interconnectedness. It’s the perfectly imperfect parts where the magic lives. Thank you @experienceform community. You continue to restore my faith in people, and you make me want to be a better person too. Thank you @zach.tet @mikefeinberg and @alexbhoffman for creating this baby and letting me help raise it, @el_hud/@findcontext for helping make the art and activities program so meaningful this year, @thelibraryofesoterica and @thunderwingstudio for your beautiful intention and vision, @envelopsound for making an unforgettable sound sanctuary in a weird little cave, @david.sikorski for making the hi-fi listening cafe such a cool cozy vibe even through a rainstorm, @phxgeneral for curating the best shop filled with local treasures year over year. And of course endless gratitude goes to @pour_amor_ @mediocrejasper @thenoiseacademy.prdctn @kenzieovenell @twinflameproductions.co @badasskath @esp.pdf @baskinrobyn @gently__used @earthen_em @evansglamourshots @stouttent @soteriaspace, our small but mighty art department who deserve their own post entirely, @shifthappensvolunteers and all who make this ambitious undertaking a safe and supported place where anything is possible. FORM fam forever.

Listening to the E/earth with this beautiful group of attuned listeners. The bells of Arcosanti ringing in the breeze and a resonant crow perched high on a post near us reverberated through the canyon.

Cycle AZ 66 riders get a little something extra.

@statebicycleco just donated stickers and mini State Bike Lego cyclists for every Cycle AZ 66 participant. Each one is a small reminder of a big day on the Mother Road.

Join us October 17 in Kingman for a fully supported 62-mile out-and-back on Historic Route 66, celebrating the road’s centennial year. Riders of all paces are welcome, from fast A-group riders to folks there for the scenery. E-bikes too.

Hola! Happy to announce that I’ll be a part of Cycle AZ. Come ride down historic Route 66 in Kingman and Valentine, Arizona. I will be set up somewhere on the route drawing folks and snippets on the ride. Should be a fun turnout! @bromptonusa is an official sponsor of this ride! I’ve been loving my Brompton Foldie bike for some years now.

Registration is officially open for Cycle AZ. Be a part of a fully supported 62-mile out-and-back down Historic Route 66, from Kingman to Valentine and back, October 17, 2026. A metric century timed with Route 66’s 100th birthday and the I Heart Route 66 Festival.
Roadside attractions, desert landscapes and the cycling down along new and old friends.
We’ll roll past some roadside legends that made this highway famous.
Enjoy the ride, make the stops, collect some new memories.

These images are from First Friday at Phoenix Art Museum. We got to chat about the event and cycling with folks! Snaps by @unheard.harmony #lookseedraw

Super deep into preparing for my project at FORM, Instructions for Listening to E/earth.
It is becoming way multi modal. I have been thinking about aspects of this project for such a long time, and it’s roots are in so many of my other bodies of work, especially my sound practice; all are coming into play. The experience of different areas of my interests and research and making come together is kind of exciting for me!!
I hope that I will be able to bring this into many communities.
There is a written text score, many of the phrases are screened onto the flat side of each section of the “earth circle”. These are instructions for listening, or images of roots or microbes.
People who participate can follow the prompts and practice deep listening, paying close attention to the Earth, or rest and be still. The collaborative result will be a time and site specific composition, very much dependent on the engagement and participation of the community. I’m printing small books for participants to take, and I’m hoping that they will also be bringing their listening skills out into the planet and out to the community.
I do need to do a trial run of this early this coming week—-Tuesday?
Anybody?? please please contact me if you might want to listen to the Earth with me 🌍🌎🌏
