The Open Door Collective, in collaboration with Jyotsna Ramesh (@jojorambles ), invites you to a private screening of Maagh (The Winter Within ) by Aamir Bashir, followed by a discussion with the filmmakers.

Thus, this collaboration and offering was born out of our love for art and our commitment to engaging with the politics of art. At the heart of this collaboration is a desire to engage with what we value and care about deeply and share it with people who may care about it as much as we do.

Sunday, 16 August 2026
6:00–8:30 p.m.
Indiranagar, Bengaluru

Please note: This is a free, private, invite-only screening, Attendance for the event is by invite only. We have limited seating capacity, so DM us to save a spot. by @fizapreet

How does caste show up in our lives, our training, inside the therapy room? This reading circle invites mental health practitioners to sit with that question—through reading, reflection, and shared dialogue.

Rooted in anti-caste commitment, this space is interested in savarna accountability & reflection.
Our focus is on sitting with discomfort, challenging our conditioning, and exploring how caste shows up in our practice and relationships—not as a purely intellectual exercise, but as an embodied, relational awareness that can shape our clinical ethics. In our commitment to staying uncomfortable, we vehemently refuse to make this a “safe space” for savarna therapists, and hope to uphold the revolutionary politics of Babasaheb with humility. Please note: if a DBA practitioner chooses to join, you are not expected to teach or hold the labour of this space. That work is on us.

Across 4 sessions in August, we will read Babasaheb Ambedkar’s ferocious text Annihilation of Caste. During these sessions we will hold reflective conversations on:
-Locating ourselves within the caste system
-How caste shapes our personal and professional lives
-Silence, complicity, and caste(ism) in therapy spaces
-Belonging, exclusion, and savarna-normative mental health culture
-Moving from reflection to practice

📍 Online (Zoom)
 🗓️ Thursdays: August 6, 13, 20, 27
 ⏰ 2:30–4:30 PM IST
👥 Facilitators: Fizapreet Dhillon & Shalini Rao
 💰 Fees: ₹3,000

60% of Fees will be directed to an anti-caste organization (TBD).

This circle is open to practising mental health practitioners (not current MA/BA students).

Participation will be confirmed after a brief check-in call.

As someone who lost her mom in childhood, I noticed that never in my life did anyone check in on me during mother's Day, except for my dad maybe. This day was (and still is) all about celebrating some idealized notion of motherhood people carry. But nowhere was there space to acknowledge that Anna Jarvis founded Mother's Day to grieve her own mother's loss, and to create a day for daughters worldwide who’ve lost theirs to honour that grief.

Then capitalism entered the chat, appropriating the day through corporations selling "celebrations" in the way they know best. And what we know about this system is that it doesn't want people to pause and grieve. Thus my grief never found space or validation, because at a collective level, we are made to avoid grief for the discomfort it carries. So we'd rather numb ourselves and force shallow joy onto our bodies.

But I don't want to live in a world where realising joy means locking my grief away where it's invisible to others, palatable enough for them to consume in small chunks. No, our grief will not be palatable. We're here to reclaim this day, to grieve, to re-member our mothers with all our raw emotions: anger, love, hurt, disappointment. Not to eulogize the relationship, but simply to be.

And this is exactly what happened in this gathering. We realized we just needed to bring together a room full of daughters sharing this grief, and that was enough. Our roles as facilitators ended there; we became redundant, and rightly so. It was an honour and a pleasure to witness what unfolded in that room.

Sometimes coming together in shared grief is enough to dismantle systems.

My understanding of this loss has expanded and I am learning that grief cannot be rushed, so I'm slowing down, taking a pause, smiling at my silliness, and tending to my tears.

Thank you all who made this happen, the daughters who joined, @bicblr for offering the space, and special thanks to @ofthemindandheart and @gyanchiiii 💜💜

Slowly but surely, savoring every memory and moment shared with these lovely folks in Slide 2
(was unfortunately unable to tag them all). 💜💜

Couldn't have asked for better co-travellers on this learning-unlearning journey where we unpacked supervision and flipped it upside down.

This year's been rough, but I'm finding solace in my diploma notes, artworks, and conversations. 🌿🪻 by @fizapreet

📍9 May | Sat | 4:00PM

➡️ Mother Grief

📍Please note that this event is only for womxn aged 18+

A reflective, art-based reflective circle for those who identify as women, Tides invites you to sit with the loss of your mother. This includes cis women, trans women, and non-binary or gender expansive individuals, who resonate with themes of mothers, grief, and navigating life after this loss. The aim is to bear witness to the grief in ourselves and in each other.

Participants will be guided through sharing circles and experiential activities using clay and beads. Not to eulogize the mother-daughter relationship, but to make space for its greys and nuances. You are not expected to perform your loss, or grieve the ‘right’ way. All of it is welcome here: the tenderness, the anger, the ambivalence, the love.

Join us for a community circle to read or write poetry in shared silence, body double, or recite poetry.

The core idea is to engage with poetry as a place of rest, resistance, playfulness, and witnessing. You can feel free to bring any poem with you that you're currently resonating with or share and recite an old cherished poem with the group if you'd like (self-authored or penned by someone else). There's no theme for this meeting or specific poet we'll be reading. The idea is to engage with poetry on an individual and community level, be it through writing, reading, or sharing.

The registration link is in bio (linktree) and on the QR code; once filled, the meeting link will be emailed to you before the session day. Please find more details in the form regarding group guidelines, intentions, etc.

Although the primary language of communication will be English, we're open to community members helping make it multilingual, for example, translating guidelines and basic communication into local languages if needed. Beyond that, we welcome people reading, sharing, or writing in languages other than English, even if you don't want to translate for the group. We're happy to receive it however you choose to share it. The idea is to resist the empire by reclaiming the languages our tongues have grown up within.

This space is explicitly anti-caste, anti-transphobia, anti-homophobia: No racist, sexist, transphobic, casteist, xenophobic stances will be tolerated during or after the circle.

Be a Queer Affirmative Therapist outside of therapy rooms because our mental health, oppression, care, values, skills, whimsy, agency, trauma, joy also doesn't limit to a therapy room!

It's once again time to fiercely and unapologetically practice our politics.

Educate. Agitate. Organize.
Rest when you are tired, lean on people to hold you. Rage when you are angry and cry when you are sad.
