Our home was once a river paddle boat (or “paddlewheeler,” as I learned to call it) ❤️ What an honor to live in a piece of history!

Living in this floating home as first-time homebuyers has meant learning about boat maintenance, home maintenance, AND the history of river paddlewheelers all at once. But we feel such a heartfelt responsibility to enjoy and care for our home as so many have before us. by @floatinghomejournal

So delightful! I loved the stained glass, porthole windows, and color palette of this floating home. It was fun to check out another open house, especially one on the iconic Issaquah Dock and in a similar price range to our home 🧡💙

P.S. If you’re interested in more details, this home is listed by Steve Sekhon (DRE 01843478) with Compass. by @floatinghomejournal

Living surrounded by nature is such a multifaceted experience!

This was the low tide sunset right before our week of high tide flooding. While living on the bay doesss take awareness and effort, it’s so worth it. 💜 by @floatinghomejournal

No scary movies or tide apps on Halloween night plz 🎃

We moved to our floating home a few months ago, so this is our first time experiencing extreme high-tide flooding. And even neighbors who’ve been on the dock for decades say they haven’t seen it THIS high before.

So I’m learning as much as I can, and, most importantly, taking notes from the long-timers about what to pay attention to.

While the vibes I’ve felt on our dock have been very positive, I’m a lil fried from the nonstop news helicopters and ready for a cozy night in 😅👻 by @floatinghomejournal

Captain Peaches 🫡 performing his dock dog duties by checking the high tide flooding around the floating homes in Sausalito.

We’re being faithful to our tide apps right now and planning our days (aka potty walks) around the flooding.

Thankful for this patient little gentleman! by @floatinghomejournal

Fascinating that our floating home will rise and fall over 7 feet today!

Here you can see our home ride up the pilings from this morning's low tide (4.2ft) to this afternoon's extreme high tide (7.7ft). And then we're goin' all the way down to 0.5ft this evening!

Why “extreme” high tide? It’s about a foot more water than we’d typically have.

There's plenty to prepare for as the king tides and more flooding approach, but I’ve appreciated how our community takes in the spectacle and talks logistics together. by @floatinghomejournal

High tide flooding* as seen from the Sausalito floating homes on Wed, Oct 28 🌊

(*Turns out these aren’t king tides! This flooding is coming from a combination of El Niño-induced thermal expansion, Kelvin waves, and the full moon cycle.)

It’s fascinating to see our neighborhood transform. The concrete pilings beneath the boardwalk are fully submerged, and people are kayaking where we’d walked our dog less than an hour earlier. by @floatinghomejournal

It boggles my mind the way the seawater comes and goes—I have so much to learn. Grateful for our floating home neighbors who keep each other informed, since calling the bay home is definitely a practice in paying attention and planning ahead. by @floatinghomejournal

Okay, but whyyy do grill tools look like they were made for giants? 😂

I honestly felt intimidated by grilling at first. But our floating home makes me feel drawn to being by the water AND feel more patient with myself as I try new things. So it’s been a perfect activity to practice (and enjoy 😋) by @floatinghomejournal

The first evening in our floating home was indeed a MOMENT 🥺

I learned the process of buying a home is strenuous and scary for just about anyone. I also learned that buying a *floating* home brings its own nuances with financing, insurance, renting the dock, etc. (And honestly, I’m glad I didn’t know what we were in for until we’d already fallen in love.)

But when this sunset was waiting as I walked up that first night, I cried because I just knew it was all so. dang. worth. it. 😭 by @floatinghomejournal

There are more than ten different docks with floating homes and liveaboards in Richardson Bay, and each one totally has its own vibe!

Since we don’t have traditional front yards, residents adorn their dock space in creative and functional ways, with art, potted plants, and maintenance tools all together.

P.S. I’m mindful to explore quietly and respectfully. And there are signposted public shores with great views for visiting! by @floatinghomejournal

Captain Peaches 🫡 (reluctantly) preparing for the heavy rain.

With our floating home toward the end of the dock, we traded the convenience of being close to the grass for open water views. So we’re getting Peaches used to walking in his raincoat during gentler rain before El Niño really gets goin’. (Many rewards were granted 🦴) by @floatinghomejournal
