We arrived at Morant's Curve yesterday afternoon just as a train was passing by, and we waited 3 hours in sub-zero temperatures for this next train to finally come. When seasons collide! Last week Mount Washington received its first snowfall, and at the same time the slopes below were painted with vibrant fall colors. Apparently this is called “snowliage” (a combination of snow and foliage). We had been watching for it, but for a couple of days after we arrived in New Hampshire, the summit of the mountain had been covered by clouds. Finally, for a few minutes the other day, the clouds lifted and the sun shone on the peak — and in this shot you can see the snow-covered peak and all of the weather-monitoring equipment up there, which makes an interesting contrast with the fall colors below. #mountwashington #newhampshire #fallcolors by @focalpointersllc

She'll be comin' 'round the trestle when she comes, she'll be comin' 'round the trestle when she comes... This is the Conway Scenic Railroad at Frankenstein Trestle. The 500-ft long railroad bridge is named after the adjacent Frankenstein Cliff, which honors the American landscape painter Godfrey Frankenstein. We came up to photograph New Hampshire's fall colors, and what could be a better subject than a yellow locomotive?! Nature's beauty is astounding. We found this shell partially buried in the sand just off the beach on a tiny Bahamian island. The shell was flipped over so that the vibrant colors inside weren't showing. We picked up the shell, checked for an occupant (there was not one), and brought the shell onto the beach for a photo session. The shell's symmetry, its textures, and its vibrant colors -- rose, coral, and gold -- are amazing. Here's a little photographic magic -- brought to you by the beauty of palm trees on a Bahamian island and the ability of a lens ball to capture a 180-degree view of a scene through refraction. Yesterday we took our new photographic toy to a lovely island and tried to figure out how to capture the palm trees. When we figured that part out, it was time for some computer work -- because the image in the ball is always captured upside down. Ah, The Bahamas -- where the color of the ocean ranges from sapphire blue to brilliant turquoise! Isn't this pier inviting?
