This is a long-delayed post from us. One final party to wrap up this chapter after 8 years of disrupting Klang Valley’s nightlife scene with unconventional music programming and collaborations. Stood true to the vision for the most part, but it is time to move on. For this final night, we have new and old DJs who have graced our decks with some of the heaviest selections KL has ever heard - from percussive, breaky, dubby techno to modern interpretations of baile funk and kuduro, ragga-heavy jungle to ghettotech and juke. RM40 for entrance if you DM us now (doesn’t include the usual first drink) or RM50 at the door. *** FAQ Is fono really closing? Yes and no. This is not a marketing gimmick. fono as the physical space entity will cease its operations - which means, no more weekly parties. fono as the brand however will live on as a boutique agency - occasionally hosting events, booking touring acts, continue curating for our existing and future partners, and consult all things (non-mainstream) music related because fono is forever. What will happen to the space? [edited for clarity] Core members of fono will continue to occupy the unit and still contribute to the vibrant community of @thezhongshanbuilding in a different capacity, and expand the collective to include other highly passionate individuals and crew. We can’t wait to share more details but it will be unveiled when the time is right. Where will we go for good music after this? There are others who are still at it and also some new places in various forms, please show them some love. If no one else is doing things how you’d like them, now is the right time to start throwing your own events! Feel free to reach out to us for tips and advice. How could you do this? We believe that after 8 years, it is time to take a step back to avoid being jaded and burned out. It's also important to be able to take on new projects without being stretched too thin - physically, mentally, spiritually, and financially. To those who booked a spot for our day out at @sentosajandabaik tomorrow, we hope you’re excited just like we are and we hope you read this caption before you head out. This is a sold-out event and we won’t be able to accept walk-ins. [README.TXT] This is a family-friendly, smoke-free event (including vape & e-cig), and this needs to be said, no drugs allowed on the premises. We also would like to let you know there will be a kitchen takeover by @cyrus.unite so you don’t have to worry about going hungry. Of course, you can still bring your fruits and cheeses. You can come as early as 1PM for lunch at @rasasentosa.jandabaik On top of the expected things to bring like sunblock, picnic mat/camping chair, towel, etc, please bring a small plastic bag too for your trash. We would appreciate it if you don’t leave anything behind. This is a rain-or-shine event, be prepared and wear appropriate clothing. There will be enough shelter in case of a downpour. For over five decades, Azymuth have been in a league of their own. Blending jazz-funk, samba, and electronic grooves into what they call samba doido, the Brazilian trio created a sound that’s still impossible to pin down and even harder to resist. From jazz heads and crate diggers to beatmakers and dancers, Azymuth’s influence runs deep. Their music has inspired generations, with collaborations alongside 4hero, Madlib, and Jazzanova, while producers like Theo Parrish and Ron Trent have put their own spin on the band’s legendary grooves. It is time for another collaboration between Yap Ah Shak House and Fono Hi-Fi - offering you an analog escape from our modern world of digital streaming and soulless algorithms. To kick off the For The Record series and as a tribute to Japanese jazz kissa roots, we will share curated Japanese jazz records; from pianist Ryo Fukui to trumpeter Takuya Kuroda, Japanese jazz fusion icon Casiopea to lesser-known but cult-favourite jazz-funk Native Son, and Wamono (Japanese-western fusion) legend Takeo Yamashita. The selections will be played through a pair of Mandrem Onken (custom, vintage-style speaker cabinet built around classic Altec A7 components) and powered by Rega Brio, an acclaimed audiophile amplifier known for its warmth and pure analog process.
