Hello out there,
Been a while since I posted about life. I’m not much of a photo-dumper or into sharing my social life on here much anymore but just felt like sharing where I’m at these days.

Life is good, but I am so busy and so so tired! My Hashimotos has been challenging lately. Some days the brain fog, overwhelming fatigue and body pains are debilitating and I can’t do the things I want to- like get projects done or go out with friends or do more than one activity/task in a day. I used to be a pretty adventurous person. I used to work full time and still have energy for projects, dinners and gatherings with friends. Sometimes I see people’s summer adventures on here and feel sad that’s not my mode anymore, sometimes I’m ok with it and I just appreciate all the blessings I do have.

Being a business/studio owner is a whole new roller coaster of learning a lot of things! I’m immensely grateful for this opportunity to be growing and expanding in new directions. I’m excited to see what we will create and build with time.

In my own ceramics practice I’m trying to keep myself stocked for upcoming mark-ets in October and December with @nightshademarket and November with @culturecrawl. I’m looking forward to my first soda firing at @shadbolt_centre in November and also a delightful community workshop at our studio @sunsetceramicsstudio with @jscreatures!

All this to say: my life is very full of a lot of wonderful opportunities. And also I’m struggling with chronic health issues and wish I had more energy to spend with the people I love (if you’re my friend and reading this- know I think of you often and I miss you. If you’re a new person in my life know I wish I had more energy to hang out and get to know you). If you’re a customer or collaborator, know I’m doing my best to get back to you but sometimes it takes me a few days to have capacity for all the correspondences I have to keep up with.

If you got this far thanks for caring and being part of my world! I hope you’re doing well and enjoying these gorgeous September days. Happy Equinox, sending love to you all.

Some pieces I’ve enjoyed making lately

(1/2) An incense holder (or for special little trinkets)
(3) A teapot with the Estonian national bird (barn swallow), flower (cornflower) and butterfly (swallowtail).
(4) 3 fermentation crocks, one with the rose sgraffito design. Get ready for kraut and kimchi time!

A new chapter for our studio.

We’re stepping into something new and we couldn’t be more excited. Grace has joined Farnoush as co-owner, and together we’re ready to get to work: two artists who care deeply about clay and the community around it.

As for changes behind the scenes - Dustin has moved on, and we wish him well with what’s next.

Grace (they/them) is queer and non-binary, of Estonian and Scottish descent, living on MST lands. After years in biology and ocean sciences they found their way back to art - and haven’t looked back. Seven years into ceramics, clay has become their medium for self-expression, creativity and wellness. Teaching is a big part of their practice and they’re looking forward to sharing that joy with more people.

Farnoush Golkar (she/her) co-founded the studio in 2022.  She is a queer Iranian-Canadian multidisciplinary artist with a primary focus on ceramics for over five years. Her work is rooted in her Iranian heritage and a love for forms that evoke a sense of the past. She’s entering this new chapter with a focus on creative freedom in her practice.

Together, we’re building a ceramics community - relaxing, inspiring, a place to create, connect, and learn from each other. A safe space for QTBIPOC folks. Somewhere friendships and creative relationships grow naturally.

We have a lot coming: classes, workshops, and more, starting this summer. Stay tuned.

Happy Birthday @isaacsahota ❤️
Celebrating 3 years with my sweetheart Isaac Rose Parvez Sahota and 33 years of them on this Earth. I love you so so so much and am endlessly grateful for our worlds colliding. You teach me so much every day, you bring my life so much joy. You are my best friend and my life partner. I am so lucky to be with someone who helps me grow, and who makes me feel so comfortable being my authentic self. You are smart, silly, funny, kind and generous. You bring so much light to my life. Last bunch of gas fired pieces from this round!
I learned a lot from the various experiments I did with all of these, it was a lot of fun 🤗! The translucency of the carved polar ice candle holder is very satisfying to me. Too bad that clay is insanely expensive now! Made a little shino kitty cause I had one little lump of clay left to use up. Sadly one of my favourites- the carved scales with cobalt oxide didn’t make it in to the kiln because I broke it before glazing it 😓 #thatspottery
