THE SALON SHOW - Summer 2026

A group exhibition rooted in the tradition of the salon — where art is experienced not in isolation, but in conversation. Works selected not around a predetermined theme, but for the way they speak to one another across time and mediums.

Each piece carefully selected and even more carefully arranged. This show moves like a current. With longing, fire, and subtle power laced throughout. Maroon, gold, amber, and black — like embers — dance across the wall from one piece to the next. There are works that reach toward the past and others that strain toward the future. There's a circle-of-life energy running through it all, a quiet power that doesn't announce itself — it just holds you.

On display now until August 21, 2026

__________
A moment from the process...

As I make progress in my latest series, I'm reminding myself to slow down and enjoy the beauty in each step along the way.

It's easy for me to get lost in the to-do lists or the done-what's-next mindset, but it's moments like this that pull me into the present and ground me.

Seeing my collection of vintage and antique frames waiting to be filled like blank canvases is overwhelming in the best way.

WEATHERED - by Atarah Atkinson, 2025

Walking through Rome, you learn quickly that the most extraordinary things are rarely the ones announcing themselves. This staircase I came across on foot — what appeared to be the back entrance to a private estate — was not asking to be looked at. Three marble steps lead to a large patiniad iron gate, and beyond it, more stairs continue upward past walls of old plaster that has begun to peel back, revealing the layers of material and time beneath. Dried leaves had gathered and cascaded around the steps, unhurried, as though they belonged there. I stood there bearing witness because it felt like accidentally seeing something true about a place; so I took a deep breath, settled my Hasselblad and found the frame — one snap later I continued on my way.

Weathered sits with the idea that deterioration and improvement are not opposites. What aging takes away in precision it returns in depth — in the plaster that peels to reveal what it was made of, in the gate that has darkened over decades into something richer than its original finish, in the leaves that have settled into the composition as naturally as if they were placed. The archival giclée print is held in a vintage wood frame with gold accents, aged itself, holding an image that asks us to reconsider what we mean when we call something ruined.

This piece is part of Bright Ruin (2025), my series of over 45 unique works shot entirely on analog film over the course of 10 days in Rome, and first exhibited at Gallery ATARAH in September 2025.

Weathered is available via the online shop or email info@galleryatarah.com to come see it in person! 🖤

OPENING NIGHT - THE SALON SHOW - Summer 2026

Thank you to everyone who came out for the opening of this summers Salon Show!

As I look through these wonderful photos captured by @planetnehemiah - my heart is so full!

Seeing the gallery full of smiling faces, laughter and light - the exact warmth and energy I was hoping the evening’s celebration would bring!

Nothing quite beats the feeling of seeing fellow artists with their families and friends celebrating their work. ✨

The show is on display now until August 21, 2026!

FOUR IN THE MORNING by Louise Nevelson, 1966

Louise Nevelson is one of the great figures of 20th century American art — her work hangs in MoMA, the Tate, the Centre Pompidou, and a plaza in Lower Manhattan that bears her name. She was the first woman sculptor represented by Sidney Janis Gallery, with Whitney retrospectives in 1967 and 1980.

Four in the Morning comes from her 1966 Façade suite — twelve prints made as a tribute to poet Edith Sitwell. Nevelson didn’t illustrate Sitwell’s poems; she responded to them the way one artist answers another.

The process is what makes these singular: Nevelson screenprinted photos of her own sculptures, then cut them apart, collaged the fragments onto acetate, and rebuilt the compositions — layering acetate over wove paper until the image had real physical dimension. (A young studio assistant at Chiron Press that winter, before he was famous: Brice Marden.)

This piece is a photographic collage screenprint on wove paper with screenprint on acetate overlay, signed and dated in pencil by Nevelson, numbered 76/125, published by Harry N. Abrams with The Pace Gallery. The vertical, almost architectural forms are her own sculptural designs — photographed, cut apart, rebuilt. Black, for Nevelson, wasn’t absence. It was everything.

In excellent condition, presented in its original vintage silver metal frame, and one of my personal favorites in the galleries collection.
