The showcase starts NOW! 🎬✨

We are so excited to drop the first two short films from our recent creative project art @rondearingutc Today, the spotlight is on Connor and Archie!

Each student was tasked with creating an under-one-minute film exploring something unique about themselves, using their own choice of style, animation, or music.

From mastering the editing software to creating their own audio, these guys absolutely crushed it. The sense of achievement at the final screening was real, and now it's your turn to see why!

👀 This is just the beginning—keep your eyes peeled as we share the rest of the 15 student films over the coming weeks.

15 young directors, 15 unique stories, 15 short films under 60 seconds! 🎬✨

Over an incredible week, a group of brilliant young people in our Arts Council at Ron Dearing took complete creative control to script, shoot, and edit their very own micro-films. Each short film is a personal snapshot—exploring and expressing who they are in their own voice.

Each film is under a minute long and serves as a powerful personal expression of who they are. The variety has been absolutely mind-blowing—we’ve got everything from creative stop-motion animations to cinematic films shot entirely on mobile phones. 📱🎞️

The students didn't just stop at filming; they mastered editing and some even recorded their own custom music and audio tracks to bring their visions to life! 🎹🎧

"I have found the week very enjoyable and had a massive sense of achievement when we got to screen our videos. I have learnt a lot this week and would love to do it again."

Huge thanks to Peter for working with these over an intense and very warm week! What a way to end their final week at school before the summer break!

👀 Keep your eyes peeled! We will be showcasing these final videos across our social media and website over the coming weeks. You won't want to miss them!

Friday was one of the most wholesome mornings of my life! ❤️

Thoresby Primary's celebration assembly for Rainbow of Emotions, the first ever pupil voice led picture book, co-produced by myself but built with their Year 5 and 6 pupils as part of the Happy Doodles method through 6 tailored workshops. This video was created by Thoresby and they kindly gave me permission to share the joy on here too 🌈

There were tears all round, including mine, especially seeing the very start of this journey for the first time, right back to when the school's Arts Council pupils chose me as their local artist to work with! I'm so grateful!

This project has taken us from that first meeting, all the way through to a finished book that pupils have taken home to keep, and a legacy left at the school and across the trust.

Before we started, 0 out of 11 children said they found it easy to talk about their feelings.
By the end, 8 out of 11 were using drawing as a way to cope. It is now a book that will sit in the homes of these pupils, as well as in the school and the other schools within their trust, and stocked in @hull.libraries ! 📖

That is what Happy Doodles stands for. Giving children a way to say what words alone sometimes can't hold, and to support them through it step by step, in an accessible, low-barrier, peer led way.

I am beyond honoured and proud of every single pupil who poured themselves into this book, and of Thoresby for trusting the process from day one, and for Generation Hull & Arts Council England for their trust in me and their funding.

This is only the beginning! I want Happy Doodles to reach so many more children, classrooms, schools and communities across Hull and beyond, giving more children that same first moment of realising a doodle can hold a feeling that words can't yet reach.

🎬 Behind the screens at Kelvin Hall! 📱

Our latest creative project is officially underway, and the pupils have jumped straight into action. They’re collaborating with the brilliant local multidisciplinary artist Jay Moy to explore a topic that touches all of our lives: social media usage and its impact on young people's mental health.

Through exploratory workshops in animation, video production, and projection mapping, the students are taking a deep dive into the digital world and translating their research into powerful visual art. 💥

We can't wait to see how they bring their ideas to life over the coming weeks. Stay tuned for a behind-the-scenes look at their creative process! 🎨✨

📖✨ What a momentous day! We had the absolute privilege of attending the official assembly book launch for Rainbow of Emotions—a beautiful book entirely written and illustrated by the talented young people of the Arts Council at Thoresby Primary School in collaboration with Jodie Smith!

Seeing the sheer joy on their faces as they held their published work for the very first time was unforgettable. It was a true community celebration, shared alongside proud parents, guardians, pupils, funders, and members of the local authority.

Huge congratulations to these brilliant young authors and artists! Your creativity is inspiring. 🌈❤️

A massive shoutout to our incredible Generation Hull apprentice, who just smashed her work placement at The Big Malarkey Festival! From managing tents to diving headfirst into the festival chaos, she gained some serious industry experience.

The festival team had nothing but amazing things to say about her:

"Thank you so much for your energy, enthusiasm, smiles, and suggestions. We all loved having you as part of the team!"

Swipe through to see just how much of a fab time she had! 📸 She really did it all:

✨ Brought a positive attitude to every single task.

🧠 Had a great time talking AI and Augmented Reality with the library staff.

☕ Had "a right laugh" managing the green room and coffees with Elaine.

🎪 Got totally stuck in resetting the Big Top between events.

🌱 Encouraged the kids as a Tent Manager (and lived her best life getting covered in clay with Rewilding Youth! 🧱)

🦄 Rocked a custom unicorn mask to inspire the kids while managing a super busy craft tent.

📻 Smashed the site comms on the radio like a total pro.

We couldn't be prouder! This is exactly what the Generation Hull apprenticeship is all about—gaining real-world skills, building confidence, and having a blast while doing it. 🙌
