Today, I had the honor of delivering a keynote and performance at @friendsbalt. The young leaders blessed me with great energy and held space for me to be vulnerable, to share my failures and most embarrassing rejections. I’m grateful for you guys. You give me hope for the future. Remember, find connection with each other, have faith in your ability to get through anything, lead with love and finally, be bold, brave and vocal… in the face of injustice. People Not Things forever and ever
.
Camera @ricovgx - thank you to @thelifeofnolo and the faculty at Friends. Thank you for having me, for not silencing or policing me. For having faith in the ancient message of People Not Things

“a Leader isn’t defined by status, applause or titles…

a real Leader ensures those around her rise, she creates more leaders and elevate those in her proximity. Whether she’s praised for it or not”

My Pops taught me that early. By that definition, I’m thanking 2025 for a very successful year 😊

I’m grateful for my mentors and partners, for helping me rise and guiding me into the leader and social entrepreneur that I am today, especially for your presence in my life during this trying year. Thank you for having my back @susandavisnyc @realirshadmanji @revjacquilewis @focusforhealth @middlechurch @moral_courage

Wishing everyone peace of mind, prosperity and inner leadership in 2026! Happy New Year 🎆🎊🎈

Teaching “Stage Presence” to future performers was a highlight from my week long Artist In Residence at @westernmichu - Shout out to @moral_courage for sending me over.

Watching them increase their vulnerability and confidence with each round was incredible to witness. I’ve been on stages for over 20+ years now, as a Hip Hop Artist, a Poet and Public Speaker. It was exhilarating to share my failures and triumphs, the tools I’ve gained, the importance of understanding sensuality when engaging fully with your audience. The more we hide ourselves from them, the more they feel that, and hide themselves from us 🔑 That’s for any art form. We touched on so many tips and tricks of becoming a “show stopping” performer. I have no doubt you all will become that, if you keep going!

To my poetic protégés, if you’re reading this, I hope you all continue to craft your “show stopping” piece and practice, practice, practice until you arrive at Carnegie Hall or your own version of what that dream venue and audience is. You can do it, I’ve seen what you can do. Just do it often and improve a little each time. I look forward to following your journey 😊

Philadelphia! A time was had. I had a blast attending @focusforhealth Partner Summit 2026. Bigs ups to the Segal family for making this happen.

Big shouts to our site visit hosts, I left feeling so inspired by @menofcouragephl and @nomo_foundation. Be sure to give them a follow, they’re doing incredible work.

I also met so many incredible changemakers from New Jersey and Philly. You all give me so much hope in this current climate, I appreciate being able to be in community with you 😊

I also met an incredible poet who performed for us named @yolandawisher and while walking down the street I met a gifted musician @will.ellsworth. Go check out their artistry.

Philly, what an incredible city you are. I’ll be back.

The fear of rejection or caring too much what others think is a major barrier to reaching our highest potential in life… not just for artists, but most people in general. It was my pleasure to share my most epic failures with the students at WMU and say “I can’t wait until you fail, survive it .. then say.. oh that wasn’t so bad”. My greatest accomplishments in my life came from my reaction to failure, backlash or rejection.

Even if there’s just one person you can help or one person who is inspired by your boldness, your creativity, your ideas… isn’t that worth the risk? Like my Pops told me that one fateful night… “Today could be your last day on Earth, I hope not, but tomorrow isn’t promised. Seize this moment to say what you need to say”. Govern your ego, go be Great, go Fail!

Thank you Dr Lisa Coons for letting me pop in to your class. Behind the scenes shot from @jbwmu

Day 2 of my Artist In Residence at @westernmichu

As Global Ambassador of @moral_courage - I had the distinct honor of being in conversation with the honorable Dr. Lewis Walker. At 90 years young, he shared openly about his decades long journey as a Civil Rights Activist, Bridge Builder and work in education and justice reform. I had a chance to thank him, on behalf of my generation, for creating more space for us to stand up and speak up. Because of what his generation did during a time where speaking up could and often resulted in death and physical harm, we can be a bit braver and a bit safer while doing the same. Thank you sir.

After our shoot, I was able to chat with the Poetry and Creative Writing honor students in Professor Alen Hamza’s class. We spoke in depth about @peoplenotthings - A Philosophy for the Age of Division. And the raw power of poetry, art, unbridled self expression. They were vulnerable and shared about their fears as creatives, in a culture so quick to dismiss or degrade self expression or even personal opinion for that matter. Overcoming that fear is one of the most powerful things they will learn in their young life, and I’m honored I can play small part in helping them destroy that barrier.

Excited for day 3…

Today I start my week long residency at Western University Michigan! This morning I spoke to Dr. Vincent’s Film students about the production of our documentary “Mississippi Turning” produced by @moral_courage and @breakout Then I spoke to both undergrad and grad students from Prof. @shondabuchanan ‘s Poetry and Creative Writing classes… about the production and publishing of my book People Not Things: Love Poems For Humanity. And THEN visited Prof. @heidi.weiss.art class of visual art students! I spoke about the 4 Barriers of the philosophy of @peoplenotthings and they created new pieces in conversation with the philosophy. Such an incredible experience. I was blown away by the young artists and writers I met today. Thank you for making it happen Jeff and Irshad 💕 and Mallory @yrollamallory ☀️

This is a unique experience for me and I pray my Creator bless me with more like it!

On Monday, I had the honor of delivering a keynote at @methodistuniversity. I taught the 5 Core Skills of @moral_courage after screening our documentary “Mississippi Turning”.

The time I spent with the students, especially the student leadership left me hopeful and excited for the next generation of leaders coming up.

The skill of healthy communication even around difficult topics, is something that will serve you, your entire life. Learning to speak from both confidence and curiousity is a tool most never take the time to sharpen.

I gave you the game, now you just have to practice it and apply it. Find the common ground and build from there. The Industry of Division is alive and well, have the Moral Courage to call it out and call each other in. Stay focused, take care of each other.

Yesterday, the Brothers of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc., Phi Gamma Chapter had the honor of welcoming Genesisbe, a guest speaker at Methodist University’s Convocation, for a powerful conversation on moral courage. She shared her personal story of standing up for what she believed was right and encouraged students to never be afraid to speak up, even when it isn’t easy.

A powerful reminder that having the courage to stand for what’s right can make a difference. 🖤💛 #AlphaPhiAlpha #PhiGamma #Brotherhood by @genesisbe
