✨ Community. Conversation. Connection. ✨
This year, the Methodist University Black Student Union had the incredible opportunity to attend a private session with Genesis Be, guest speaker for Methodist University’s Convocation! 🖤
Our members were able to network, engage in meaningful conversation, ask questions, and hear firsthand about Genesis Be’s experiences and perspectives. We’re grateful for spaces like these that allow us to connect, learn, and leave inspired.
Thank you, Genesis Be, for sharing your time, wisdom, and energy with us!

Yesterday, the Brothers of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc., Phi Gamma Chapter had the honor of welcoming Genesisbe, a guest speaker at Methodist University’s Convocation, for a powerful conversation on moral courage. She shared her personal story of standing up for what she believed was right and encouraged students to never be afraid to speak up, even when it isn’t easy.

A powerful reminder that having the courage to stand for what’s right can make a difference. 🖤💛 #AlphaPhiAlpha #PhiGamma #Brotherhood

@gaza_camp dinner with Waseem, Myles, Basheer on top of roof #Jerash #Jordan.

It is the most neglected #Palestinian refugee camp in Jordan. But what little they have, they give. Like my birthplace #Iwakuni #Yamaguchi, it's a second home. I have a network of "real friends" there.

I can arrive at my worst, they raise me up. I arrive at my best, I break bread. Always.

I miss these guys. I love and miss them ❤️

Spending two weeks in Oaxaca has changed my life. Grateful for the people, the food (the moles!), the art, the music, the mezcal, the activism, the push to practice Spanish, and the deep Indigenous and ancestral knowledge that continues to exist here.

It has been such a dream to share this experience with you, Genesis. Cheers to four years of a relationship that is filled with passion, romance, conversations until the sun rises, clowning and laughing at stomach hurting levels, school pick ups and drop offs 🤪, puppy cuddles, dancing in the streets, traveling, challenging each other, trying new things, and exploring ways of living that keep us true to ourselves. I am so very blessed to navigate this crazy world alongside you.

we threw a block party, and it was so much fun!
but more than that, it was aligned with our intentions for connection, community, generosity, and “neighboring” (i may have made that word up).

we had a band, food and drink trucks, games, and over 100 friends and neighbors came. people stayed well beyond the end of the event because they enjoyed the energy and being with friends old and new.

i share some of the backstory behind this in the last slide’s video.

i highly encourage you to gather your community, however you define that. in times of extreme disconnection, divide, and loneliness, it will uplift you and others and be well worth the effort.

(and if you’re into details- yes, willa is holding 4 different popsicles and she ate all of them. 😂 and yes, i changed my shirt midway through the event— heat and 4-popsicle-eating-sticky-handed-2-year-old being the cause).

Have you ever taken a significant break from social media? What did that cleanse teach you?

Educators: If you’ve ever thought, “We can’t touch that topic in class!” — this is for you.

Teach our 30-minute award-winning film about two young people on opposite sides of a tough issue. They show how to create common ground even as they stand their ground.

We built you a Teaching Pack so you don’t have to figure it out alone.
