Most people take the water taxi to St Michael’s Mount.

I saw a path disappearing beneath the sea and thought, “That looks more interesting.”

So I started walking.

The water went from ankle-deep to waist-deep, which is saying something when you’re 6’4”. People on the shore watched as if they were witnessing either a pilgrimage or a terrible decision.

Against all odds, I made it to the island.

Then they refused to let me inside because I wasn’t wearing shoes.

Honestly, a perfect ending.

The castle can wait. The walk through the sea was the real adventure.

And…I’m £6 richer…so I can reinvest it all into the Cornish pasty economy 😎

Traditional Ticino ✨

While many visit Switzerland for its alpine lakes, rivers, and mountains, there’s another side of the country that’s often overlooked…

Located in Switzerland’s southernmost canton, Ticino is an Italian-speaking region that feels more like Italy than Switzerland 🇨🇭 The people speak Italian, the architecture looks Italian, and the gelato, pizza, and pasta can rival those across the border. And the weather is hot! Well, for Switzerland standards anyway 😜☀️

In Ticino, you’ll have many beautiful lakes to choose from, including Lake Lugano and Lake Maggiore. But for me, the most interesting part of Ticino is up in the mountains ⛰ Go for a drive just north of the lakes, and you’ll stumble into these traditional stone houses that the region is known for. They are not just in one town or one street…they are everywhere. Here are my favorite mountain towns that you’ll want to check out: Corippo, Lavertezzo, Sonogno, and Foroglio. Enjoy! 😁🇨🇭 Foroglio, Switzerland taken in Ticino, Switzerland by @global.viewpoint

INNER JOURNEY IN ICELAND 🇮🇸✨

Words cannot express the incredible experience I had hiking up a mountain in -10C temperatures, wearing nothing but a bathing suit! 🤯 It was challenging, exhilarating, and transformative — all at the same time 🧊🔥

This Wim Hof retreat in Iceland with @intothewild.within pushed me to my limits and beyond, showing me just how much inner strength and willpower I possess. It’s just a matter of tapping into this infinite potential that we ALL have 💪

I’ve never felt more alive, and I owe it all to the power of the cold and the breath. If you want to unlock your full potential and tap into your inner warrior, I highly recommend this experience with @intothewild.within. It was one of my most transformational experiences in 2022 and led me on a deeper path in personal development. Trust me, it’s worth the goosebumps! ❄️💪🧘‍♂️ taken in Iceland by @global.viewpoint

A conversation about a Christmas card brought me to this waterfall. 🇮🇸🍂

While traveling through northern Iceland, I met a guy working at a hotel who told us about Hraunfossar. His family had their Christmas-card photo taken here. That was a pretty convincing recommendation.

My first visit here was on October 1, 2017 with fall color all around the falls. What got me was how they just kept going. Every time I moved the camera, there was more water coming out of the rock.

Hraunfossar means “lava falls.” Spring water seeps through a lava field and spills into the Hvítá River along roughly 900 metres.

For your Iceland map: this is in the west, around two hours from Reykjavík. There’s a viewpoint beside the parking area, and neighboring Barnafoss is worth seeing while you’re here. Afterwards, I highly recommend riding horses at Sturleykir Horse Farm - just a short drive away!

Quite a backdrop for the family Christmas card I’d say haha.

West Virginia was one of my favorite surprises on a three-week East Coast road trip. 🍂

Way back in 2020, I drove from one end of the Appalachian Trail to the other…from northern Maine to northern Georgia. West Virginia turned out to be somewhere I could have spent a lot more time.

This is Glade Creek Grist Mill in Babcock State Park. The mill beside the creek, the rocks, and all that fall color together are pretty hard to beat. I loved exploring this area.

One detail I thought was cool: it’s a working mill, assembled in 1976 using parts from three older West Virginia mills.

If you’re planning a trip around New River Gorge, leave room for Babcock, too. On a longer West Virginia road trip, I’d also add the hike to the Seneca Rocks overlook. Ahh I gotta get back there!

Eight trips to Switzerland, and places like this are why I keep coming back. 🇨🇭

I’ve explored all over the country, but Ticino has a feel of its own. Italian is spoken here, and the food has strong northern Italian roots. Gotta love the risotto, polenta, and local wine, surrounded by mountains that are very much the Alps 🙌

This is Foroglio, a little stone village in Val Bavona. I love the traditional houses, especially those heavy stone roofs, with the waterfall coming down behind them.

The region’s rustic stone buildings, known as rustici, grew out of mountain farming life. They look like something from a fairytale, but they were built for everyday life in these valleys.

Imagine having a few days here. Long walks, a good meal, and these little paths becoming your way home.

I live just outside Boston, and October still turns me into a tourist. 🍂

I love walking around Beacon Hill this time of year, then heading over to the Boston Public Garden. Brick sidewalks, old homes, leaves underfoot, and color overhead. Familiar streets suddenly deserve another hundred photos.

For a fall afternoon here, I’d put those two stops together. Grab a coffee, wander through Beacon Hill’s side streets, then leave yourself time to walk around the Public Garden (and Boston Common).

Bring someone who understands that “a quick walk” might take a few hours.

I’m a New Englander who gets excited about a road full of orange trees. Put a medieval town at the end of it and I’m sold! 🍂🇩🇪

In Germany, those sunny, colorful October days have a name: Goldener Oktober, or “golden October.”

That’s what I love about Germany in autumn. Old town streets, timber houses, mountain villages, and fall color everywhere in between.

These are a few of the places I’ve explored in October, all in southern Germany:

📍 Landshut
📍 Nuremberg
📍 Bamberg
📍 Rothenburg ob der Tauber
📍 Dinkelsbühl
📍 Freiburg, Baden-Württemberg
📍 Garmisch-Partenkirchen
📍 Mittenwald

If your idea of a good fall trip involves walking around old towns and getting out into the mountains, there’s plenty here for you.

Bring someone who’s equally up for the adventure! Though good luck being the person who has to narrow down that itinerary haha.

If you’ve ever driven an hour (or two) just for cider donuts, we need to compare notes. 😂🍎

I grew up in New England eating cider donuts, so yes, I have strong opinions. Honey Pot Hill in Stow, Massachusetts, and Vermont’s Shelburne Orchards are my personal 10s. That’s the scale we’re working with here.

Hogan’s Cider Mill in Burlington, Connecticut got a 9.3 for the donuts and a 9.7 for the cider. Both were warm and fresh when I tried them, which definitely helped.

$9 for a cup of cider. And I still gave it a 9.7... I’m a part of the problem 🤣 The picnic tables out back and that farm feel made the whole stop even better. I’m a fan!

Where’s your 10/10? I’m always willing to investigate. 👀

I could spend all of October taking the back roads here. 🍂

I’ve been exploring the Litchfield Hills in northwest Connecticut, and this place has so much of what I love about New England. Historic little towns, farms, apple orchards, scenic trails, old bookshops, and cozy cafés, with fall color everywhere in between.

I like being able to get a hike in, grab fresh cider and cider donuts from a local farm stand, and keep exploring. Even the drive between stops is part of what you came for.

Drive around Lake Waramaug, stop at Kent Falls, and head up to West Cornwall for the covered bridge. Leave time for the hike up to Steep Rock’s overlook, too.

Bring someone who’s also going to want to stop every ten minutes.

I think Connecticut gets left out of the New England fall conversation way too often.

I’m running through Steep Rock Preserve here, with leaves covering the trail and color overhead. Pretty easy to get excited about this part of the state.

The Litchfield Hills sit just south of the Berkshires, and they have so much of what I love about New England. Historic little towns, winding country roads, farms, apple orchards, and cozy cafés, all surrounded by fall foliage.

Vermont, New Hampshire, Maine, and the Berkshires deserve their attention. I just think northwest Connecticut belongs on that list, too.

I love being able to get out on a trail like this, then spend some time exploring the towns.
