The ferry wave is really many waves. From mellow peelers all the way to heavy barrelling mutants, when the Cat rolls through, the harbour goes from dead flat, to a surfers playground, and back to dead flat in minutes.

It’s a mad dream that @bengravyy turned into a reality and in doing so inspired our own quest for novelty perfection.

Stoked to get two long rides at this wave with the local boys @vanbuskirkandy (on the party wave) and @gcunni (going for the gnarly shallow start section)

A tip from my buddy @tannercaulk led to a last minute decision to head down south and join @bengravyy and his crew of novelty hunters @noahc.lavinmedia @shawn.behrend @howz_dis_guy on the search for the ultimate ferry wave.

After scoring some crazy barrels, the boys headed out on the ferry and I had one last shot as they cheered from the deck.

I had a plan, I visualized and prepared with Ben’s help. What followed was the craziest ride of my life, staring out of the barrel to see a giant catamaran ferry that was producing that very wave, which would then swallow me and snap my trusty @blackrosemfg longboard. Totally worth it. 🫑

Lots more to share in the coming days but here is a few shots captured by @lfb87photos

Thank you to @matuseinc for believing in me and supporting me to this moment.

Thank you to the local boys @vanbuskirkandy and @gcunni and the Groms for showing stoke and kindness that is an example to us all 😊

Finally, thank you to Captain Stu for creating the best wave I have ever seen πŸ™πŸΌ taken in Canada by @gnarcheologist

Adam Tory of Hurricane Surf Company (@hurricanesurfcompany) presents a unique perspective shaped by two very different coastlines. He learned to surf in Tofino before relocating to the inconsistent waters of Nova Scotia, and now coaches surfers of every level while competing for the Canadian national longboard team. We get into why river and lake surfers often out-surf people who live right on the coast, how Adam breaks down a backside cutback on a longboard step by step, why he's built his whole approach around surfing bad waves instead of only waiting for good ones, and how the Basis Paddle Trainer helped him stay conditioned through a foot injury heading into a tough contest season. We also talk about what separates top international longboarders from everyone else, how climbing and skateboarding carry over into surfing, and go through a rapid fire round where Adam builds his ideal surfer.

Backside cutbacks on a longboard comes down to timing. @gnarcheologist walks through how he reads the wave to know when to cut back, and how his weight and foot placement shift through the bottom turn into the top.

River and lake surfers have an edge most people overlook. @gnarcheologist explains why lake surfers get so sharp at reading messy, crossed-up conditions, and why river surfers who live hours from the coast end up with perfect technique.

This past weekend marked a personal milestone for me as I had the opportunity to lead my first @performancefreediving course in Nova Scotia as part of the @bottomdwellersfreediving instructional team.

A huge thank you to @adairc and the Bottom Dwellers crew for the opportunity, to my partner @egerrttmarie for the support and for taking photos and video, and to an awesome group of studentsβ€”@russell.john.clark @birdsnesthalifax @aidoneus87 @asaucypan @mr_hattacular . It was a pleasure guiding you through your first steps into freediving, and I can’t wait to see where your new skills take you!

Little waves, Big fun with @petitbumsurfclub @riosurfboards trying out their signature fin.

I found it to be forgiving for noseriding smooth through turns. Definitely stoked to keep riding with it to see what it can do in more powerful waves!

Hit them up to get yours!

Also huge props to @egerrttmarie for the water housing πŸ“Έ skills ❀️
