water drop bowls, a project for a colleague - after a very meditative & focused past few weeks i finished this series, my first larger commission: a collection of shallow bluegray bowls with individual ripple patterns :) 🌀 by @graceposting

over the past few months, i began learning woodworking & metalworking at @pcclancer, with the assignment of making ‘a toy and a display case’ over the course of a semester. i ended up making this two-headed doll and a two-sided doorway, wanting to create my own 2025 version of the ancient roman god of doors, transitions, and dualities, Janus. i carved one side of the doll’s head and one of the doors out of a nicer quality red oak; the other side of the head and door are carved from thin sheets of cheap pressboard i layered and glued together. it was really intriguing to see how i could work with higher-quality materials reminiscent of vintage furniture and older standards of craftsmanship, versus increasingly low-quality woods used in today’s shitty apartments and McMansions. the doll’s head rotates, allowing anyone to let the doll face whichever versions of past and future craftsmanship and standards of living seem more accurate to their own life experience.

ultimately this project was so fun and grew me so much… i ended up using tools and equipment that intimidated me during undergrad, & being around my very talented and driven classmates pushed me every day. tldr.. take a class at PCC if you can!! this is only the beginning :p taken in Pasadena City College by @graceposting

special post for just this piece, my modular table centerpiece modeled loosely off the lily of the valley flowers in my backyard growing up.

this is my favorite thing i’ve made in the past couple months—i handbuilt the ‘stem’ with four attachment points where you can place three ‘flower’ bowls to set up a little dinner table :)

the stem will have a darker color after its final firing, and the full set will be available for sale at @compostable.la 🔜🔜🔜 taken in Moonwater Farm, The Comptons by @graceposting
