HBO’s new show The Last of Us (2023)
starring Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey! i am INCREDIBLY excited to see what they do with this amazing game that has completely changed my outlook on life. two unlikely pairs now intertwined, embarking a journey together whilst trying to survive a zombie apocalypse. same folks who did HBO’s Chernobyl are behind this new series which means the drama will be THERE. tears? check. blood? check. gore? check. acting? CHECK. airing January 15th, 2023 #thelastofus #hbo #thelastofushbo #groovydeadite #horror #zombies by @groovydeadite

movies that are near and dear to my heart, in no particular order. ig won’t let me add more so i will do a part 2 tomorrow!

✨The Long Walk (dir. frances lewis) ✨ SPOILER FREE REVIEW:

(a film adaptation of the book by stephen king) is a slow, relentless descent into tension and emotion. it’s bleak without being empty, brutal without relying on shock, and powered by performances that make every moment feel heavy. the atmosphere does so much of the work here—quiet, haunting, and uncomfortable in the best way. not an easy watch, but a meaningful one that lingers long after it ends.

performances by david jonsson and cooper hoffman were raw, emotional, and completely convincing — their performances carry the film and make every moment hit harder. truly standout work. very excited to see what the future holds in acting for these two.

✨🪚TOGETHER (2025) 🪚✨ dir. Michael Shanks (SPOILER FREE) review:

if you’re drawn to films that take big swings and refuse to apologize for it, Together is absolutely your kind of ride. it’s messy in the best possible way: a chaotic blend of relationship drama, surreal horror, and dark humor that constantly keeps you guessing. the tone shifts are bold but intentional: one minute the film feels grounded and emotional, and the next it plunges into bizarre territory that makes you laugh, cringe, and lean forward all at once.

what stands out most is how confidently the movie commits to its strangeness. it doesn’t try to explain every odd moment or soften its edges. instead, it embraces the awkwardness and absurdity of two people trying to hold their relationship together while everything emotionally and physically, is changing faster than they can process. the body horror elements are inventive but not gratuitous, amplifying the deeper theme of losing yourself for the sake of staying connected.

🏈✨HIM (2025)✨🏈 dir. Justin Tipping

this movie had all the ingredients for a bold, boundary-pushing horror — football, pressure, ambition, and a haunting sense of dread. the visuals are striking: moody cinematography, brutal physicality, and a surreal, almost ritualistic atmosphere that lingers after the credits roll. performances (especially from marlon wayans) hit hard, capturing both charisma and menace right when the film needs it. however, for all its style and ambition, the film stumbles. it’s plot never quite ties together in a satisfying way, horror and critique don’t always balance, and the final act leaves more questions than impact.

if you go in expecting a cerebral horror sports movie, you’ll walk away wanting more. if you’re down for a dark, unsettling visual ride with flashes of brilliance, Him might still be worth the watch. (4/10)✨

💀 28 YEARS LATER 💀 (dir. danny boyle) SPOILER FREE REVIEW:

probably one of my most controversial posts as of late. danny boyle returns to the rage filled apocalypse, and he brings the fire. 28 years later is a bold, chilling continuation that expands the world in ways that feel both epic and eerily grounded. the tension never lets up, but it’s the emotional core that really hits. we’re reminded that in the face of chaos, humanity is just as dangerous and just as vital, as any virus. the new cast carries the torch with grit and depth. visually haunting, sharply directed, and full of heart pounding moments, this isn’t just a sequel, it’s a reckoning. so why so controversial? a certain character seems to have a look a like or reference to a real famous UK pop culture guru who was sinister irl. a lot of people didn’t like this one but i just so happened to. 8.5✨🧟

✨CLOWN IN A CORNFIELD (2025)✨ dir. eli craig: SPOILER FREE REVIEW:

if you’re craving a slasher that blends small-town tension with pure halloween horror energy, clown in a cornfield delivers the goods. it’s creepy, chaotic, and just self-aware enough to be fun without losing its edge. think: masked killer, teenage rebellion, and a town with secrets. the scares are sharp, the pacing’s tight, and the visuals?????? blood-soaked americana. revolutionary? absolutely not. entertained? for sure, yes. 6.5/10⭐️

FINAL DESTINATION: BLOODLINES (2025)✨dir. zach lipovsky & adam b. stein✨ SPOILER FREE REVIEW:

the final destination franchise returns with bloodlines, a chilling new chapter that honors the original films while introducing fresh energy for a new generation of fans. the movie delivers exactly what you’d expect—tense moments, creative suspense, and the eerie sense that fate is always one step ahead.
what stands out is how bloodlines taps into family history and generational trauma, adding emotional depth without sacrificing the scares. the practical effects and death sequences are inventive and brutal in classic final destination fashion. whether you’re a longtime fan or new to the series, this is a solid return that manages to be nostalgic and surprising.

CGI of course is over the top but you know what you’re going to get out of these movies. a BEAUTIFUL memorial to the late tony todd. 🕊️i cried. this was a fun one. i ate it up. 7.5/10⭐️🚊

BRING HER BACK (2025)✨ dir. danny & michael philippou ✨ SPOILER FREE REVIEW:

okay so…this movie was bat shit crazy. absolutely bananas. the brothers do it again and go balls to the wall with this one and you should go see it. sally fucking hawkins stole the movie. her performance felt so real and she was so unlikable in this which meant she ate the shit out this role. the brothers have a talent highlighting young new actors and putting them into something so raw and real and honest. they seem to have a pattern in portraying grief and loss and how far you will go to see those who aren’t here on earth anymore. i have very minimal complaints. there are a lot of questions that go unanswered but it’s something that i can surpass. if you enjoy slow burns, extreme gore, anxiety ridden films, this is it. the same uneasy feeling i had while watching Talk to Me, was amplified. i physically jumped up from my seat to squirm around because there were certain scenes i just had to look away from. go see it. 8/10. ⭕️🩸🔪🍈

DEATH OF A UNICORN (2025)✨dir. alex scharfman✨ SPOILER FREE REVIEW:

surprise surprise! another A24 flop! i fear neon just might be the new A24 because what the helly???? we were definitely promised something greater but in the end it was muddle toned and in cohesive. the movie never really committed to that horror comedy blend. it never punched through going balls to the wall terror but teeters away with some satirical heartfelt bullshit. i’m only being this harsh because of the cast, the director and the production company and the studio that “ok’d” this and was like “YUP, this is great.” knowing damn well the cast has been in some beautifully executed horror campy satire. idk. didn’t like it. 4/10. 😡

OPUS (2025)✨dir. mark anthony green✨ SPOILER FREE REVIEW:

another weak ass release that came out for me, was this one right here. i had really high hopes for this one simply because it was an A24 film that had to deal with cults which i was really pumped about it, however, super letdown. I loved Ayo. this was definitely a great role for her, but i fear this movie simply missed the mark. she acted her ass off in this, which is what i partially enjoyed the most about the movie. definitely a slow burn and definitely has you thinking about the characters response to being hypnotized and not realizing that they are entering dangerous territory (NOT A SPOILER, ITS LITERALLY IN THE TRAILER). i understand the campy moments that were there, however it was poorly executed. how do you poorly execute camp??? idk. i love John Malkovich. i love Juliette Lewis. i love Ayo Edebiri, however this movie fucking sucked lol. some positive feedback i have for this besides the actors that i love, which is also a biased opinion is the fact that it was filmed so beautifully. i enjoyed the colors and the themes they had going on throughout the entire movie. It was shot so beautifully and it was really pretty to look at for the most part. yeah, but that was it lol. 4/10. ☹️
