Rising with the Phoenix: A New Chapter Begins

When our home—and everything in it—was lost in the fire in May of 2023, it was truly life-changing. In the midst of that devastation, I clung to the image of the Phoenix. It became my mantra: Like the Phoenix, I will rise from the ashes.

In May of 2024, we moved back into our rebuilt home. It was a moment of bittersweet triumph. The house stood, beautiful and new—but I was no longer the same. And I suppose that’s to be expected when you lose all your material belongings and the place you poured your heart into for years. The loss changes you. It changed me.

This past July, I went down to Arizona to care for my mom after her surgery. Leaving her was harder than I expected, and when I got home, I told Troy how much it tugged at my heart. Coincidentally—or maybe not—Troy happened to check his company’s internal job postings, something he only does about once a month. There it was: a management position in Phoenix, Arizona.

We talked. We weighed the pros and cons. And in the end, we decided he should go for it.
Just a few weeks later, after years of dedication and hard work, Troy was officially offered the promotion.

So here we are—on the brink of another big change.

We’re moving.

To Phoenix.

It feels full circle. Poetic, even. Like the Phoenix, we are rising again—this time, to a new beginning in a city that shares the very name of my healing.

Thank you to all of you who have stood by us through every twist in the journey. Here’s to new chapters, to resilience, and to the beauty of rising—again and again.

Troy and I went a little extra this morning—hit up three farmers markets before lunch! 🌽🧺

We kicked things off bright and early at the Des Moines Farmers Market, grabbing fresh veggies, a gorgeous hanging basket, and a beautiful handmade vase by a local artist. 🎨🌿

Then we headed to Indianola for some caulilini (basically broccolini meets cauliflower—yum!). 🥦
Last stop: Ankeny Farmers Market. By 10:45, it was getting a bit toasty, so we wrapped it up with lunch and made our way home.

Successful morning of “marketing” ✔️🌞💚
