Celebrating my “Swingversary” with our debut performance as KL Swing Troupe 🥰 ↓ Every time this time of year comes around, I reflect on my journey with Lindy Hop and how my relationship with it continues to evolve each year: ✧ On 29 Oct 2022 I surprised my friends @zhainatyun and @joshua_kwong for their first ever performance at KL Swing’s Halloween socials. ✧ On 29 Oct 2023 I attended my first taster class and danced Lindy Hop for the very first time to @thefrankiesixes live music at @jaotimkl. ✧ On 29 Oct 2024 I was learning The Big Apple 🍎 routine (a very meaningful routine to me), practicing for my second ever performance at PARC, and deepening into my first year as part of the KL Lindy Hop community. ✧ On 1 Nov 2025 we debuted our first official performance as the KL Swing Troupe, a dream I’d had since the beginning of the year. There was just something about performances that I love so much - the practices, the drills, getting better & better each time, improving as a team - and of course, the mad adrenaline rush once the performance is over. Nat joked that by 2025 I would be ‘scene leader’ but I feel I’m so much more than that: I’m deeply rooted in this lovely community, an ambassador, a dancer, a grateful member, an excited performer, and so much more. Thank you @klswings. I love you and the joy you bring to me & everyone so much. Can you believe this is my first time visiting @gmbb.kl? I have been missing out!!!!!!!! ♥️♥️♥️ Before getting the news about my foot refracture, I had been slowly getting my groove back, taking myself for small adventures around the city. I’ve heard so much about GMBB over the years from all my creative friends and finally paid a visit. I LOVE that there was so much artistry living under one roof! Around each corner, you could find something new — a book store, an installation, quirky art, a quiet neurospicy rest corner, 🤏 and more. There’s so much more to explore and I can’t wait to be back. Cried editing this — from laughter or from sadness, we’ll never know. Iylia has taught me so much about what it means to lead a community from the Heart. Since joining the KL Swing community in Jan 2024, I’ve watched firsthand how he strives to uplift and empower every individual that crosses his path. And now, at the end of his 5 year reign, he’s able to let the organization go and fully trust in its next iteration. He has left an indelible mark on my own leadership journey, more than he knows. The moment I fractured my foot during the jam circle, a strange wave of peace washed over me. I knew I wouldn’t be performing for F112. 6 months of training, down the drain. Yet I knew it wasn’t a waste — Because look how much I’ve gained? The practices, the team, the camaraderie. Just because I can’t be a part of the end product doesn’t mean the journey was moot. I am filled with gratitude for the way things have unfolded. For the space to think and breathe. For my lovely Mum who has shown up for me in ways I could’ve only dreamed of. For my friends who have showered me with gifts and crutches and yummy food. 🦶🍬🌹🥹🥐🩼 How have I been passing my time? → Playing my guitar (until I hurt my fretting arm too lol), dreaming up my new business, and dealing with endless medical revelations. I sprained my ankle filming this but it was all worth it 🤣🫰🏼 📍 Sultan Abdul Samad Building is now open to the public again after extensive renovation works since 2019! The interior took my breath away. Endless corners with intricate designs and iconic keyhole arch windows that offer views of all key KL landmarks: Merdeka Square, KL tower, Merdeka 118. Enjoy the city gallery, the informational center, the Royal Selangor pewter section and even delicious pastries by @klcgconfectionerybakery 🥐 Entrance is currently FREE because of the reopening so visit fast! 📍 FRIM (Forest Research Institute Malaysia) Over the weekend my friends and I booked a private tour with a Nature Guide at FRIM 🌳 It was such a fun, fulfilling trip! DID YOU KNOW… FRIM started out as a barren land (for tin ore mining) and was established in 1929, almost 100 years ago, to be a research center for rehabilitating forests? Since then, they have grown 1,000 species in 545 hectares of land. It was truly a 🤯 moment, looking out at all the lush trees, flora and fauna around me, thinking that none of it existed 100 years ago. WOW! Booking a guide was an amazing experience. Thomas (our guide) was so knowledgeable, he could talk for hours!! He was part of the team that worked on more sustainable ways for ethical logging. Hearing his stories and experiences while soaking up the forest vibes with friends was simply magical. 🏷️PRICE🏷️ RM5 vehicle pass RM1 entrance fee (Malaysian) RM5 entrance fee (non-Malaysian) RM150 private guide for up to 10 pax - about a 2.5 hour experience I highly highly recommend! My friends and I started a tradition last year to dedicate an entire day to each other for our birthdays. The idea is to live life as ‘that person’ for a day: their quirks, their interests, the little and big things that bring them joy. @zhainatyun is one of my oldest friends and we had the pleasure of seeing life through her eyes for a day ☀️ We woke up crazy early, drove an hour to Batang Kali for a Ulu Yam loh mee breakfast, explored the area, then Nat had the spontaneous idea to take a KTM ride to another town. Just like that we were playing ‘I Spy’ at the train station and gasping at incredible vistas on the way to Tanjong Malim 😍🚂🌤️ In the stress of adult life, how often do we take time out to have fun, go with the flow, and create new experiences with our loved ones?
