‘Bound Botany - New England Fall Ecology Archive’
Handmade papers, ecoprints, and various other organic foraged material
•
This book is a culmination of the New England fall season plant ecology, represented through foraged pigment, experimental fibres, natural compounds, and preserved organic material. The local ecology offers seasonal colours, textures, and mediums that are bound into an indexical archive focused on material quality, experimental process, and natural collaboration.
•
I had so much foraging and experimenting with different local plant species to make this book! I learned different experimental methods of paper making, tested how different dye plants reacted with various dye processes, and even preserved pressed leaves with gelatin to maintain their flexibility. Its amazing to explore the difference in home-processed and naturally sourced material. This book will be displayed in the Artists Book Show in Fleet Library during winter session :)

I did a whole tree obeservation series last year and was only happy with this one, which was the first one I made. Was trying to capture the movements of songbirds flitting through branches

‘you are exactly who you think you are’
diptych, oil on canvas each 18x24”
•
fuck new instagram aspect ratio. might repost one on one so it could actually be seen as a full inage
•
this diptych explores the idea of perception, particularly how our perspective is influenced by how we choose to view the world around us. The phrase ‘you are exactly who you think you are’ technically means nothing at all, neither a positive or negative connotation, yet each person defines it in a unique way based off of personal context. This painting could also mean nothing. Both of these paintings depict the same subjects, colour palette, and ornament, yet one can be identified as dystopia while the other as utopia. (assignment theme was Utopia/Dystopia)

I created two versions of this illustration for the @dennisconservationland depicting the species and ecosystem found on the Plashes Conservation Land, over 61 acres of undeveloped wetland in Dennis Port, Cape Cod. The DCLT is working to conserve its distinct wetland depressions, swamp zones, and unique species (such as the rare Atlantic White Cedars depicted above) and establish Dennis Port’s first maintained trails, contributing to efforts to create more accessible natural spaces on the Cape. I had such a wonderful time exploring this property and engaging with fieldwork done by TerraCorp members @charly_raymond_ & @lydiarheinhardt, whose research informed this illustration!
•
These designs will be printed and sold (alongside the farm illustrations I shared earlier) to benefit the Dennis Conservation Land Trust and conservation efforts on the Cape 🤍🌲

MIGRATION IS AN EARTH RIGHT🌎🫶❣️
•
I wanted to get this done for 4th of July but unfortunately that didn’t happen :( As an international student in America, this was my first year celebrating 4th of July. While I am grateful for such an awesome American college experience with all my new American friends and customs (trying CrackerBarrel and Sonic), it is conflicting to currently be now living in a country going through this period of political turmoil. I’m no longer a naive third party watching the news from outside, but policy changes and political unrest are actively affecting my life and future. As a daughter of immigrants from China and current legal alien in the USA, it is disheartening to see the reinforcing of manmade borders and stances made against immigration. Humans, like all of nature, have the right to move and migrate like they have done since the beginning of time.

looking at a lot of birds recently. really love how striking red-winged blackbirds look with that pop of red and glint of yellow, precariously perched atop a wavering phragmite. #birdingsummer

Its me!! in all my fucked up banged and permanent eyelinered glory. Since Ive been using this account a lot more, I thought I would take a moment to talk about myself. Hi, my name is Serena! My birthday is June 29 and I turn 21 so please dont forget that date. Whenever I draw any sort of person it always ends up kinda looking like me. I think of it as protest against the eurocentricity of drawing tutorials and mannequin heads. I have a dog named Kody and a cat named Ginkgo and i used to have a beloved chicken named Pickles that was killed by a raccoon. I have gotten more shots and vaccines than you because when I was a kid I would pick up animals (dead or alive) from outside and bring them home. I will be graduating from RISD next year and if you ask me if I will be moving back to Canada or staying in the States i will tell you that I dont know
