The sun is shining again in Austin, and it was the perfect day to spend shopping for cookbooks at First Light (one of those Austin places you’re glad someone told you about 😉).

Tucked inside the old Hyde Park post office, First Light Books feels like a little step back in time. I love their lattes, cookbooks and stationery, with something new to look at (or resist buying) every time.

A must-visit Austin spot!

Did you know that mangoes are a highly versatile culinary ingredient because of their ability to pair beautifully with both sweet and savory flavors?

That inspired me to get creative with them! 🔥🥭🌶️
And this mango-centric recipe is exactly that.

🥭 Here’s what you need:

1.5–2 lbs chicken breast
2 large ripe mangoes
2 limes
Cilantro
1 Serrano pepper
2 jalapeños
1 red onion
1 bulb garlic
1 Tbsp olive oil
1 Tbsp honey
½ tsp paprika
½ tsp cumin
½ tsp chili powder
Salt + pepper to taste

🥭 Here’s how you make it:

Butterfly your chicken breasts and pound them to an even thickness.

In a medium-sized bowl, add:

1 large ripe mango, mashed or blended
Juice of 1 lime
1 chopped, deseeded Serrano pepper
1 chopped, deseeded jalapeño
1 Tbsp olive oil
1 Tbsp honey
1 Tbsp minced garlic
½ tsp paprika
½ tsp cumin
½ tsp chili powder
½ tsp salt
¼ tsp black pepper

Mix well, then add your chicken and coat thoroughly.

Cover and marinate for 30–60 minutes. DO NOT over-marinate!

While the chicken marinates…

🥭 Make mango salsa:

1 chopped ripe mango
¼ red onion, finely diced
1 jalapeño, deseeded and finely diced
Juice of 1 lime
Fresh chopped cilantro
Salt + pepper to taste

Mix everything together and set aside.

🥭 Cook chicken: (Don’t come for me for using a cast iron skillet on my stovetop. I choose to live recklessly. 🤪)

Remove the chicken from the marinade and pat it dry. This helps you get a better sear.

Heat 2 Tbsp of a high-smoke-point oil in a cast iron skillet over medium-high heat.

Add the chicken and cook for about 4–5 minutes on the first side, flipping once it releases easily from the pan.

Cook for another 4–5 minutes on the second side, or until the thickest part reaches 165°F on a meat thermometer.

Transfer to a plate and let the chicken rest for 5 minutes before chopping into bite-sized cubes.

🥥🥑 BUILD YOUR BOWL: Start with a bed of coconut jasmine rice (I added cilantro), then add your spicy mango chicken, fresh mango salsa and sliced avocado.

Top it all with my Mango Serrano Sauce for the perfect sweet + spicy punch. Recipe on that coming this week! 🔥

My “I need dinner but I have no time” meal 👏🏻

This one-pan sheet pan dinner comes together in 20 minutes, costs under $15, and gives you a satisfying balance of carbs, protein + veggies, with minimal dishes to clean up afterward!

Here’s how to make it:

INGREDIENTS:
🥔 1 package potato gnocchi
🥦 1 lb broccoli, cut into bite-size pieces
🌶️ 1 package precooked Cajun chicken sausage, sliced into 1-inch pieces
🧄 1 Tbsp minced garlic
🫒 3 Tbsp olive oil
🧂 Salt + black pepper, to taste
🧀 ⅓ cup finely grated Parmesan

DIRECTIONS:

Heat oven to 425°F. Spray a rimmed 18 × 13-inch baking sheet with nonstick cooking spray.

Place gnocchi and broccoli on the baking sheet. Sprinkle with garlic and season with salt and pepper. Drizzle evenly with olive oil and toss everything to coat. Spread into an even layer.

Slice the precooked chicken sausage into 1-inch pieces and scatter over the gnocchi and broccoli.

Bake for 18–20 minutes, tossing halfway through, until the broccoli is lightly browned, the gnocchi is golden on the edges, and the sausage is heated through and slightly browned.

Remove from the oven and sprinkle with Parmesan. Serve immediately!

Save this for your next busy weeknight when you want something homemade without making a whole production out of dinner. 🤍

Fun fact: One of my favorite things to do each week is wander through the produce section and pick up something I’ve never tried before (or rediscover an old favorite).

This week’s lineup and rankings:

🍇 Moon Drop Grapes: 10/10 — extra crunchy, super sweet. HIT.
❤️ Rambutan: 8/10 — sweet, juicy, and officially my newest obsession.
⭐️ Star Fruit: 4/10 — I wanted to love it… but the texture wasn’t for me.
🥑 Tropical Avocado: 6/10 - Great sliced, but too watery for guacamole. Lesson learned!
💜 Plumcot: 7/10 - plum/apricot hybrid is sweet, tangy and juicy.

What fruits and veggies have you been loving lately?

Am I the last person in Austin to discover H Mart?! 🇰🇷😂

I could have spent HOURS wandering this place. If you love cooking, trying new foods, or discovering cultural gems around Austin, this is one spot you need to add to your list.

H Mart is a South Korean-rooted American supermarket chain.

The “H” stands for Han Ah Reum, a Korean phrase meaning “one arm full of groceries.” Honestly…that’s exactly how I left. 🤭

What you’ll find:
🥭 Imported fruits and produce
🍄 More mushrooms than I’ve ever seen in one place
🍜 Entire aisles dedicated to ramen
🦀 Live seafood
🍱 A huge food court

And that’s not even everything! There’s also a fresh bakery, K-beauty products, an arcade, specialty shops, and so much more.

My favorite part was definitely the live seafood. I spotted cuttlefish, baby octopus, razor clams, and so many fish I’d never seen before. The produce section was beautiful too, with amazing prices like $3 dragon fruit and 50¢ honey mangoes.

What came home with me?
🥒 Cucumber kimchi
🧄 Garlic puree (can’t wait to use it in homemade ginger dressing!)
🦐 Shrimp garlic chips (my sister-in-law insisted I try them!)

The store was incredibly clean, well organized, and everyone was so friendly. If you’re in the Austin area, it’s absolutely worth the trip to Cedar Park.

Fair warning…your first visit probably won’t be your last. 😅

Would y’all want a Part 2? I barely scratched the surface of this place!

🕶️ Yeah, Baby… It’s Avocado Crema. 🥑

The secret sauce? Simple, fresh, and if done right, one you’ll make on repeat. This was the finishing touch for my Elote Tex-Mex Hot Dog recipe I shared earlier this month, and it’s quickly become one of my favorite summer staples.

Here’s how to make it:

Ava’s Avocado Lime Crema 🥑

Ingredients

🥑 1 large Hass avocado
🥣 ½ cup plain Greek yogurt
🌶️ 1 jalapeño, seeds removed
🧄 1–2 cloves garlic
🍋 Juice of 1 lime
🌿 ¾ cup fresh cilantro
💧 2–4 tablespoons water or olive oil (to thin to your desired consistency)
🧂 Salt, to taste

Instructions

✨ Add the avocado, Greek yogurt, jalapeño, garlic, lime juice, cilantro, and water or olive oil (if using) to a blender or food processor.
✨ Blend until smooth and creamy.
✨ For a thinner sauce that’s perfect for drizzling, add water 1 tablespoon at a time until you reach your desired consistency.
✨ Taste and adjust with additional lime juice, salt, or jalapeño for a little more brightness or heat.

Perfect on

🌭 Tex-Mex hot dogs
🌮 Tacos
🥣 Burrito bowls
🍗 Grilled chicken or shrimp
🌽 Street corn (elote)
🧀 Nachos
🥦 Roasted vegetables

…or honestly, just about anything that could use a fresh, creamy kick. 🥑✨

Easy Smoked Elote Dip 🔥🌽

I was blown away by how many of you saved and shared my Tex-Mex Hot Dog video yesterday — over 150 saves and shares! Thank you so much for all the love and support.

Since so many of you wanted to recreate the recipe, I had to make sure you had the smoked elote dip too.

This smoky, creamy elote dip is everything you love about Mexican street corn turned into a shareable, scoopable appetizer. It’s rich, tangy, lightly spicy, and just as good warm as it is chilled. Perfect for chips, BBQ spreads, game day snacks, or as a topping for hot dogs and tacos.

Save this post for the full recipe! 👇

Ingredients:
• 5–6 ears fresh corn
• 2 tbsp olive oil
• 1/2 cup Greek yogurt
• 1/2 cup mayo
• Juice of 1 lime
• 3–4 garlic cloves
• 1 jalapeño, diced (seeds removed for less heat)
• 1–1½ tsp smoked paprika (to taste)
• 1/2 tbsp chili powder
• 1/2 tbsp Tajín seasoning
• Salt + pepper
• Toppings: cotija cheese + fresh cilantro

How to make it:

1. Shuck, wash, and dry the corn.
2. Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat with a drizzle of olive oil.
3. Add the corn and let it cook undisturbed for 2–3 minutes to develop a char. Continue cooking for 8–10 minutes total, stirring every couple of minutes until evenly blistered.
4. Add the jalapeño and garlic during the last 1–2 minutes so they soften and become fragrant.
5. Remove from the heat and stir in the mayo, Greek yogurt, lime juice, smoked paprika, chili powder, and Tajín. Season with salt and pepper to taste.

Top with cotija cheese and fresh cilantro. 🌿

As always, share this with someone you love. 💕

P.S. This dip is perfect for your Fourth of July weekend, World Cup watch parties, backyard BBQs, and all your summer gatherings! 🇺🇸⚽️☀️

Happy July, Everyone! ❤️🤍💙

With America’s 250th birthday approaching, I wanted to create a dish that celebrates tradition while honoring the beautiful mix of cultures that shape our food 🇺🇸

So, here’s my take on a Tex-Mex Hot Dog! 🌶️

Ingredients:
🌭 8 hot dogs (I like uncured 100% beef)
🥖 8 Hawaiian roll buns
🌽 Elote topping: recipe coming Thursday!
🥑 Avocado lime crema (optional)

Hot Dog Marinade / Spice Blend:
🌶️ 1/2 tsp chili powder
🧄 1/2 tbsp garlic powder
🧅 1/2 tbsp onion powder
🌿 1/2 tsp smoked paprika
🧂 pinch of salt
🍋‍🟩 fresh lime juice + zest
🥄 2 tbsp olive oil
✨ Optional: tahin for extra heat

Directions:

1. Slice hot dogs down the center (don’t cut all the way through) to open them up for maximum flavor.
2. Add hot dogs to a bag with olive oil, lime juice, and spices. Shake well and let marinate while you prep.
3. Heat a skillet over medium-high heat and cook hot dogs until golden brown and crispy on the edges 🔥
4. Toast buns, load up the hot dogs, pile on elote, and finish with avocado crema.
5. As always, share with someone you love 💕

Perfect for the 4th of July! Save this for your next cookout ☀️
