Kenya completely changed me. I am in love with the people, the land, the wildlife, but especially the Latter-day Saints laying the foundation of the Church there. The future of our church is African. I’ve studied Church History for 20+ years, but in Kenya I felt like I was witnessing it with my own eyes. If you know me, you know my testimony burns bright, but it was even more ignited by their faith. I cannot wait to go back. by @hank_r_smith

Happy Birthday to the most caring and loving dad in the whole world! Bear with me as I brag about him and tell you a little story, because this man deserves it.

My dad grew up in a really rough home and had an incredibly difficult childhood. Yet through it all, and to this day, his testimony of the Savior and our loving Heavenly Parents has never faltered. He has worked harder than most people will ever know. Pushing through those long hours sitting at our old living room table, chipping away at his PhD and quietly accomplishing what once seemed impossible. He dedicated his life to lifting those around him and offering a steady shoulder to lean on as they limp through the trials in their lives - a saving grace for so many. Including me, more times than I can count.

He has taught me more than I can fully express about the Savior, our Heavenly Parents love and the power of Jesus Christ’s Atonement. He has been one of the people in my life who embodies the power of forgiving freely, the beauty in patience, letting go with grace, and the strength in owning your story - the good and the hard. He is living proof that your past does not define you; it refines you. And that through the Savior, nothing is beyond healing.

He’s stood on the sidelines of my life, teaching me lessons that I’ll carry forever. From cheering at basketball games to makeshift repairs on my poor high school car using zip ties and duct tape. So here’s to my dad, not perfect, but endlessly good. One of the greatest heroes in my life🩷 by @hank_r_smith

My mom passed gently into the arms of my dad this last Saturday. She and I and Jenn had some fun conversations these last few weeks. Last Thursday, as we talked about all the people she would see soon, she closed her eyes and said “oh that sounds nice.” ❤️

Had the chance to take Mason on his first tour of Israel. He loved it! His favorite part was the friends he made in the group & his least favorite part was listening to me teach. :) taken in Israel by @hank_r_smith

I called my dad every year on Groundhog Day to wish him a happy birthday. Today was the first one without him.😢 My kids were very surprised I was so emotional over Punxsutawney Phil this morning. 🥲

One of the best pieces of grief advice I received was:

“Keep happy days happy days.”

So we’ll go out to eat tonight and talk about him and celebrate him. by @hank_r_smith
