my third Shiprock Marathon with a win couple weeks after a hard Boston Marathon, been some years now. Dedicated the race because we just lost my Father then. Kids were sad they didn’t see me race in Boston so they asked me to sign up for Shiprock day before and run it so they can watch me run. by @haroldbennally

USTRC Speaker Spotlight 🌟 @haroldbennally

Running has always been more than a sport for Harold Bennally. Growing up on the Navajo Nation in Northern Arizona, it was part of who he was before he could even articulate why. That connection to land, culture, and movement has shaped everything he has built since.

Harold is a two-time NJCAA All-American, Boston Marathon finisher, and ultramarathoner at distances of 250+ miles. He is also the founder and Race Director of Moccasin Running, a race organization promoting Indigenous cultures through running in the stunning landscape around Antelope Canyon in LeChee, Arizona.

He will be joining the panel for The Future of Public Lands & Trail Running in Nashville, and we cannot wait to hear his voice in this conversation.

The race that got me to do my first marathon, my first ultra pulling me away from the 2-5hr gym sessions of curling 80+ benchin 325+ I turned back to my legs. I raced this event a few times and once in my moccasins for 34 miles. I come to help my friend I grew up with host his dream, my brother today we know what we need to do to keep going. As much as what is against us all the time we keep moving forward, obstacles from every directions for the good of what we do. Thank you to ones that support us. I love my Chinle family, I never thought I be in Chinle, the community have grown on me over the many years and I keep coming back. First “100” was over kill with Cocodona 125. Next 100 the hardest 100 mile in AZ, next the fun run BC100K, next the loopy 100 mile Javalina Jundred, & the 250 Cocodona.
I’ve riden bulls but never got a buckle so instead of 8 seconds it’s hours of pain and self torture that I love to do. by @haroldbennally

EPIC! I came for so many reasons. This is my DREAM RACE, HARDROCK 100 mile & 2 of our own Native runners got the lottery draw I put in for to run! HARD HARD HARD EVERYTHING to be there along with many others that do that same HARD! I enjoyed everything about this trip up, my first time pacing, my idk 6 time watching the event. My 1st time summit again since my cousin Gabe Tsosie passed, very thankful I was hand picked to help out my Brother Brandon Parker. He did such an amazing performance! As in life there is many things out of our control and life threatening risk we put ourselves through but we do this and we love it. Call us crazy and anything else we all heard the names but we love what we love to do. We live it. We are ultra trail runners. taken in Silverton, Colorado by @haroldbennally
