[text on photos] Parents of CA High School Seniors who are scared to start their applications or apply at all…

First of all, your kid is awesome!

They are learning a ton and becoming a grown-up right before your eyes.

They’ve develop new passions, dived deeper into things they’ve loved forever, and took wild curves no one saw coming. They’ve been on quite a journey.

Being seventeen is A LOT!

Their fears and overwhelm about what comes next for them does in no way take away from how awesome they are.

And they are awesome!

Second of all, you are awesome!

You care about your kid.

You care about the future they are embarking on.

You care about them getting through this year as smoothly as possible.

You are learning how to let go.

You are awesome!

There’s an awesome account on YouTube called The California Counselor. It’s run by a HS school counselor who has the most gentle voice and calm vibe.

He has a walk-through video for the CSU application that goes through the process step-by-step making it clear it’s really just clicking some buttons and putting in your address etc.

Sometimes kids who are overwhelmed need help with starting. The future-this entire process-can feel like a heavy medicine ball is on their chest pushing them into the couch. Once they start, that medicine ball rolls away.

He makes it clear applying takes two hours at most. Bam! And then it’s done.

And we go out to celebrate! 🎉

Because rolling a medicine ball off your chest is a big deal and doing scary things deserves a reward. by @heatherraybooks

Weekend Two of Becoming an Emotionally Supported Mom of a Senior.

I’m most excited about continuing to search for tarantulas and picking the cast member I’m going to back in Survivor 51. Severely unimpressed with the lack of “old” people in this season. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Tomatoes! 👀

I did NOT expect tomatoes to grow on my back patio. It’s shady. And I’m not great at watering them correctly. And yet—here they are!
