Chilly October plein air painting on the balcony. Always surprised at how challenging it is. Compact set up, changing light, temperature drop, and other distractions. But so great to work outside in the fresh air. Watching birds and other living beings around me. Grateful for these epic mature city trees in landlord’s yard. Planted decades ago and still holding strong.

I’m happy to share that I’ll be exhibiting my work alongside six wonderful artists: Heidi Daehler, Victoria LeBlanc, Holly Frieson, Kathleen Vaughan, Catherine Beaudette, and Theresa Passarello. Being an artist can be a very solitary practice, so having a community of fellow artists to share ideas, talk about our work, and support one another means a great deal. We formed this group in the spirit of an old-school artists’ salon, where artists gather to exchange ideas, discuss their work, and inspire one another. This exhibition brings together a selection of the work we’ve been creating. I hope you’ll join us for the vernissage on November 7 from 3- 5 PM at Maison de la culture Marie-Uguay. It would be lovely to see you there (November 7- December 12) ! @cynvanfrank @hollyfriesenart @catbeau58 @theresapassarello @heididaehler @kathleen.sheila.vaughan Victoria LeBlanc @culturesudouest by @heididaehler

Work in progress…This one feels extra physical. Due to size of canvas and position of everything. And flowers come with time constraints too. I’m realizing, however, that the more challenging these still life paintings are, the more engaging the process is. Problem solving all the way baby! by @heididaehler

A lot of paint on this one! As well as two other paintings, abandoned underneath. But I didn’t mind working on a support with some history, this time.

A study of sorts, still life from life thingey I’ve been wanted to try using various sheets of painted paper in the still life ground and background to spice things up.

I took the source photo for this painting while I was visiting the new owners of my mom’s house. It was an emotional visit to say the least. They were so kind and they had built this incredible greenhouse on the small patch of earth she had used for her own garden for almost three decades. With their permission, we had left a larger number of items for the new family when we emptied her house in a panic. One of these items was her watering can, which might have dated from the 70’s? The one on the right. I think my mom would have been pretty happy with this.
