Ran into Oles and the Avsons Kitchen and Bath team at the Charlotte Build Expo today.

We’ve been designing their new facility and showroom in Monroe, so it was good to see them and check out the booth. Their surfaces always look clean and well done.

Passive House isn’t just for homes.
These principles deliver outstanding results for office, mixed-use, and multifamily commercial projects across NC and SC — lower energy costs, better air quality, greater resilience, and strong ROI.

We’ve applied them to commercial work, including the Pester Pac Automation USA Headquarters.

Adaptive reuse isn’t just renovation — it’s a conversation between what a building was and what it can become.

In our latest project, we took a solid mid-century institutional complex and reimagined it as a light-filled, landscape-rich workplace. The structure stayed. The experience transformed.

Existing courtyards became outdoor rooms. Underused roofs turned into terraces. Dark, outdated interiors opened up to natural light, flexible workspaces, and a stronger connection to the outdoors.

This is the kind of work we love at HELD Architecture: thoughtful, sustainable, and people-centered.

Architecture alumnus Kristina Held ’04 was just selected as one of six Niners nominated to the Charlotte Business Journal's Most Admired CEO Awards! 🌟

Each year, Charlotte Business Journal celebrates outstanding leadership through its Most Admired CEO Awards, spotlighting executives who combine strong organizational direction with a genuine commitment to the Charlotte community.

This year, six Niners earned a place among the honorees—leaders whose work is shaping the region both inside and outside their organizations. Every honoree serves in a CEO or equivalent executive role, reflecting the depth of their impact.

Kristina Held earned her Masters of Architecture from UNC Charlotte in 2004 and is now the president and CEO of @heldarchitecture.

When asked her advise for future leaders, Kristina said "to lead with purpose and listen with real intention."

"The strongest leaders build trust by truly hearing their teams and clients, then make decisions rooted in a clear why. Stay curious, stay adaptable and never lose sight of the bigger impact your work can have. Whether you’re designing a building or building a company, the greatest legacy comes from creating spaces and cultures where both people and the planet can thrive together.

Congrats to Kristina and all of the nominees!

Purposeful Design. Sustainable Impact.

How architecture can harmonize with nature rather than compete with it.

What if every site could become this alive?

We’d love to hear your thoughts 👇
