Glasgow, Scotland // A night at the @achotelmarriottglasgow to experience the Liberty Suite, certainly one of the city’s most extravagant hotel rooms that I have experienced. Set across a huge floor space, divided into three areas, with bedrooms leading off either side.

The hotel includes a cool library space, with low back sofas and fire, a cocktail bar; make sure you order a spicy margarita pre dinner then head through to Hazel, the hotel’s restaurant which includes a full sized hazel tree, a tribute to Glasgow’s coat of arms

It makes for the perfect design-led stay in Scotland’s biggest city. taken in AC Hotel by Marriott Glasgow by @hidden_edinburgh

The Traitors may be a game of suspicion, but it has also made a persuasive case for a Scottish castle break.

Ardross Castle is the setting for the popular TV series where turrets rise above the trees, and Highland hills stretch beyond the gardens. Inside, grand rooms provide the backdrop for uneasy breakfasts, private conversations and the round-table debates. It is hard to imagine the programme anywhere else.

But Scotland is home to many grand private castles and boutique hotels with Traitor-esque style. Here are six of The Luxury Editor’s favourite places to stay for a Traitors-inspired break....

* Aldourie Castle, Lochness
A private Highland castle with 12 bedrooms set on the southern shore of Loch Ness. The estate spans 500 acres with a sauna yurt hidden among the trees.

* Prestonfield House, Edinburgh
A 17th-century mansion set in 20 acres below Arthur's Seat, where peacocks, candlelight and unapologetic maximalism make this Edinburgh's most theatrical stay.

* Dalhousie Castle, Midlothian
Scotland's oldest inhabited castle (800 years!) with 35 bedrooms, resident falconers and an eight-course tasting menu in the Dungeon Restaurant.

* Glenapp Castle, Ayrshire
A coastal castle with 17 suites looking over to Ailsa Craig. Enjoy private boat trips to secluded island camps and Hebridean Sea Safari.

* The Torridon, Wester Ross
A Victorian house and estate on Loch Torridon with 18 bedrooms, offering mountain views, sea kayaking, gorge scrambling and whisky tasting.

* Fonab Castle, Pitlochry
A Highland Perthshire escape with 42 rooms, a lochside spa with 15-metre pool, woodland trails, lochside dining and fireside nightcaps.

Ayrshire, Scotland // A stay at Marine Troon, the Baronial landmark standing tall over the 1st and 18th fairways of Royal Troon’s Old Course since 1894 and brought into the @marineandlawn collection in 2021.

Wellness is… family time, you can read my feature on @wellnessandworld - A Father and Son’s Scottish Coastal Wellness Weekend Away.

Maximalism interiors run through all 89 rooms, oceanic toile wallpaper sweeping floor to ceiling against floral tapestry carpets, oil paintings of storm-tossed seas in gilt frames, and bespoke sketches by Luke Edward Hall in every room. I stayed in the Tom Watson Suite, one of the Sea View Suites occupying the building’s projecting wings, its lounge framing three different views and the hotel’s west-facing position delivering sunsets that drop behind Arran each evening.

Dinner at the 2 AA Rosette The Rabbit celebrates Scotland’s local larder, while The Seal bar features sculptural driftwood chandeliers and fireside sofas. Add a seaweed-led ishga spa with a pool looking out over the course, and you have one of Scotland’s great coastal hotels. by @hidden_edinburgh

Perthshire, Scotland // Memories from @pinetreeshotel, set within 10 acres of woodland on the edge of Pitlochry. Interiors perfectly showcase ‘coorie living’, Scotland’s answer to hygge, from the boot room stocked with wellies and raincoats to the Scottish grazing larders replenished daily with treats. Original features have been lovingly restored throughout, with the marble staircase, cornicing and stained glass set against navy Victorian panelling, herringbone floors and a curated mix of mid-century and vintage furniture.

I stayed in Room 40 (named Grey Wagtail) in Heatherbank House, a 36 sqm space with a king-sized bed floating mid-room behind a half-height panelled wall, muted orange velvet sofas and French doors opening onto a private terrace. In the bathroom a freestanding tub and a walk-in rain shower.

Dinner at Fauna is farm-to-fork at its finest and Flora Bar is where the evening lingers, curved armchairs cocooned around marble-topped tables, and slick cocktails. by @hidden_edinburgh

W Edinburgh // One of my favourite Afternoon Tea’s in Edinburgh. I tried this last year at @sushisamba.edinburgh on the tenth floor of the Ribbon Building at the @wedinburgh and their Spring Afternoon Tea menu is now available.

The tiered tree-like structure has savouries on the lower branches, building up to sweets above and finishing things off with scones served in a bamboo steamer, glass of champagne (soft drinks also available) and views out across Edinburgh.

Edinburgh // An incredible tasting menu at @cardinal.scot, the intimate 24-cover fine dining restaurant tucked behind wooden slat shutters on Eyre Place, between Edinburgh’s New Town and Stockbridge. Owned and led by chef Tomás Gormley @tomasgormley, Cardinal is built around a zero-waste ethos and a network of local businesses, collaborating with potters for the tableware, foragers, native produce specialists, and a local candle maker who happens to be the owners Aunty. Tomás even designed the interiors, with the artwork on the exposed stone walls all available to buy in support of Art in Healthcare.

We enjoyed ten courses of highly inventive cooking: a lovage-oil pumpkin soup to open, yellowfin tuna with fermented celeriac and Granny Smith apple, Orkney sourdough with the most extraordinary brown butter, Belhaven lobster smoked in cherry-wood whisky casks, and a perfectly pink slice of Hopetoun Estate venison with fermented blueberry jus. The pre-dessert (aerated chocolate, quince sorbet, cocoa nibs) and to finish, French toast, served with malted barley milk and a bread-based ice cream.
