Writing my own story #thedirector #chefgee by @highly.catered

Some cuisines are tasted. Others tell a story.

Deeply Rooted is an invitation to experience Congolese cuisine through a different lens, where tradition meets creativity, familiar ingredients are reimagined, and every course carries a connection to culture.

From the richness of moambe to the comfort of pondu, liboke wrapped in banana leaves, and the sweetness of Congolese mikate, this menu is a reflection of where I come from, thoughtfully expressed through the art of dining.

Rooted in Congo. Elevated in Tulum.

For those curious about what lies beyond the familiar, we’d love to welcome you to the table.

So, what exactly is Congolese food? 🇨🇩

It’s bold flavors, earthy ingredients, smoky aromas, and meals that bring everyone to the table. It’s the food of our homes, our markets, our celebrations, and the generations who taught us how to cook without ever needing a written recipe.

On October 23rd, at Deeply Rooted Supperclub, we’re taking the classics and reimagining them. The familiar ingredients, the flavors we grew up with, the dishes that carry our stories, all reinterpreted through a contemporary lens while honoring where they come from.

There’s so much more to Congolese food than the dishes you see on a menu.

The ingredients tell stories too, where they come from, how they’re bought, and how they become part of the food we grew up with.

At Deeply Rooted Supper Club, we’re going beyond the plate. We’re learning, sharing, and telling our story, one ingredient and one dish at a time.

Come sit at our table and experience it for yourself.

After years of hosting events, I’ve learned what I want to create and, most importantly, what I’m ready to leave behind.

I want every person who sits at this table to leave feeling like they experienced something special.

This is me taking everything I’ve learned, everything I’ve outgrown, and everything I’ve been wanting to create, and bringing it all to one table.

Welcome to Deeply Rooted. 🌿

See you at the table!

As Suicide Prevention Month comes to an end, let’s talk about the people we don’t always see.

The ones still here.

The ones who wake up every morning carrying thoughts they rarely talk about. The ones who are tired, but keep going anyway.

Because passive suicidal ideation doesn’t always look like crying in bed or being unable to get out of the house.

Sometimes it looks like laughing.
Dancing.
Cooking.
Working.
Building a business.
Traveling.
Taking care of everyone else.
Living in paradise.

Sometimes, it looks like someone who appears completely okay while quietly fighting thoughts of I’m not good enough. I can’t do this anymore. I don’t want to be here.

Survival doesn’t always look like survival.

So as September comes to an end, let’s keep talking about the survivors, too. The people who are still choosing to stay. The people fighting those thoughts every single day.

Because suicide prevention isn’t just a month. For some people, it’s a daily decision to keep going.

If this is something you experience, you are not alone. As someone on the other side of it, I share my story. And if you feel safe enough to share your story please do, maybe your vulnerability can become the reason someone else realizes they aren’t alone either.

Let’s keep the conversation going

Y’all know I’m happiest in the kitchen.

There’s something about taking a bunch of ingredients, putting my hands on it, tasting as I go, and watching it slowly become something that carries a piece of where I come from.

Lately, I’ve been back in my kitchen cooking, testing, tweaking, and bringing these Congolese flavors to life in a way that feels like me.

And honestly… this is the part of Deeply Rooted that means the most to me..

It’s me finally giving Congo the space on my table that I’ve been wanting to give it for a long time.

We’re getting close. 🤎🇨🇩
