ART FRIENDS/FAM! HELLO ITS ME PEZ!! I've been in Chicago for almost TWO WHOLE MONTHS #wow #midwest ... Some of you may know I am currently an ArtistYear Volunteer Fellow through Americorps, which means I am volunteering in a title 1 school in Chicago to provide quality arts education. I absolutely love the school I've been placed at and I may share some of the artwork my kiddos make as the year progresses! All of them are such sweethearts and I have a few talented aspiring artists who have told me they want to go to art school because of me. I truly couldn't be happier with the work I am doing. I'll post some of my own artwork soon but I really haven't been making as much as I did before I started my year of service with Americorps. The kids keep me busy! Anyway. Enjoy some pics of my life so far 🩷🩷🩷 Miss you SJ arts family! Love seeing the community events on my feed! by @hubris.jpeg

"Girl and Black Roses" Pez Hanson 2026, 7"x10"
.
This is yet another drawing from the pop up exhibit at this summer's Viva Calle with J.duh :) This drawing is kind of supposed to be a diptych with "Transformation". I use a website called line of action to do figure drawing and portrait practice, and this model inspired both this piece and "Transformation". This is her before she turns 🧛‍♀️🩸⛓️🥀 I tried to really emphasize the reds and purples in her undertones to show that she is rosy and full of blood. In "transformation" i used more muted tones and pastel colors, but I didn't want to lose the deepness of her skintone either. It was a fun exercise :)

As you can see I recently watched The Vampire Lestat on AMC+ and it is actually still ruining my life because I actually still cant stop thinking about vampires. I made this a little while ago and it was featured in Jorge Duh's pop-up gallery at this summer's Viva Calle celebration! Any way. Theres two others frm that show I need to post, and I am working on a series of deeply personal drawings that I'm looking forward to sharing next!

Hello friends and family! Some of you may have seen my announcement on facebook, some of you may not have. You pribably know me as Danny, Olivia, or Danny-Olivia. I am making this post to announce my third and hopefully final name change. Nice to meet you, I'm Pezra :) You can call me Pez for short :) I am an artist, and have been known on the scene in San Jose as Danny for many years now. Perhaps in another art scene I'll be known as only as Pez... which leads me to my second announcement: I am moving to Chicago in the fall of this year! I adore San Jose, this is always my home. My plan is to eventually move back to the area, even! But by October, the plan is to be living in Illinois instead of California. I really hope that I can see all my friends and family in the area before I go. If you follow this account, you mean so much to me. Please feel free to reach out before I leave, the art community here in the bay is everything to me!! Much love -Pez by @hubris.jpeg

Red Octopus on Blue Background, Pez Hanson 2026, 9"x12", Alcohol ink on paper
.
As promised, the second octopus!! This one I was more interested in trying to capture how parts of the tentacles are translucent, and you can see parts of the legs where they overlap. I don't know if I fully captured that because the background colors don't show through... but let me know what you think :)

Lately I have been going to the library and studying books that they have on all manner of things. This one is a drawing from a book about octopuses, jellyfish, and sea horses. I wanted to explore a contrasting color scheme, so that's what I've done here. This drawing is part of a diptych. Next Octo drawing incoming this evening! :)

Thank you so much to the wonderful team at @eastsidemag for accepting my artwork for this issue! The theme for this edition is "Joy/Alegria", which has been an ongoing theme in my artwork for many years. One of my many goals is to celebrate my hometown of San Jose, my Mexican American Heritage, and my indigenous roots. Era of the Fifth sun, as some of you may recall, draws upon the Aztec conception of time, which puts the current era in "The Era of the Fifth Sun". Absolutely stoked to be alongside so many wonderful writers and artists from San Jose :,) 🫶🏼 // ¡Muchísimas gracias al maravilloso equipo de @eastsidemag por aceptar mi obra para esta edición!

"Bite Me" Pez Hanson 2026, 9"x12, alcohol ink on paper
.
So I've been watching AMC's adaptation of Interview with The Vampire and it has absolutelyyyy been affecting my artwork. This was my take on Akasha, Queen of the Damned, before her character design was revealed in the show :) The idea is that she is hypnotizing the viewer to drink her blood, something that vampires in the show do to show intimacy to one another. I intended this drawing to be a little sexy, but with Akasha remaining in a position of power and control, since she is the Queen after all. I also feel like my rendering of dark skin could still use some work. I wanted the skin to be a little darker than it is, and I'm not sure how I could have made it so :/

"Mayahuel" Pez Hanson, October 2025, 14"x17", water based marker on paper
.
Not sure why I never ended up posting this drawing here, I am very very proud of it. It is based off of the Aztec Myth of "Mayahuel", the goddess of Agave. The myth goes that she was so beautiful, her grandmother hid her away in the stars. A brave warrior disguised himself as the wind to seduce her, and they fell in love. When her grandmother found out, she was so rageful that she intended to kill the girl. The warrior transformed her into tha agave plant to keep her safe.... It's been a long time since I read the myth so I'm sure there are some details I got wrong. But You get the gist lol.
