I am 200% certain we are going to see a bunch of tech companies and conferences create their own version of Clay Cup 🏆✨in the next few months.

But Clay Cup was only one part of what made Sculpt so good.

Everything at @claygtm Sculpt was amazingly produced AND SO COOL, but what stood out was how very very intentional it all felt.

The talks, the spaces, the people they brought together, the way everything looked, even the silly foam fingers. It all felt designed to spread knowledge and help more people understand what GTM engineering actually is, how much you can do with it, and why exactly it is SO COOL.

When in my life did I think I would be sitting in the second row at a GTM conference, holding up a foam finger and genuinely caring who won??? It was all because of how thoughtfully the clay cup 🏆 event was organized and produced:

While the competitors were working, they didn’t just point a camera at three people on laptops and expect the rest of us to know what was going on.

- They pulled up participant screens and explained what was happening.

- They asked the judges what they were looking for.

- They brought in a runner-up to tell us what they would do if they were competing.

So even if you weren’t a GTM engineer, you weren’t removed from what was happening. You could understand the problem, learn why certain decisions mattered, and actually get invested in who won.

And then… the foam fingers made complete sense 😂

Did I mention this was all within ~20 minutes? An absolute customer education masterclass.

Here’s a little photo dump from one of the smartest and most fun tech events I’ve been to in a while. I left understanding GTM engineering so much better and genuinely excited to keep learning.

I hate to admit that...

I love tech events.

I not only got to try Padel for the first time, but got a fantastic lesson from @nelson.padel , and actually bonded with other attendees.

When you genuinely provide a great experience for someone, it turns out they genuinely want to give back to the community.

This means they ACTUALLY care about what you’re doing and want to try your software or partner with you.

On top of this, I got a great workout in! Nice to mix it up from the usual pizza parties. It also helped to have a really fun coach like Nelson e
