I am Marta, the person behind Ikigai Ropes 🌿🪢🌞 I am a Chilean architect, rope artist and educator based in Budapest. I have been practicing shibari for over 10 years, and teaching for the past 2, developing my own methodology through years of artistic, physical and spatial exploration. My work is deeply influenced by architecture, textile and body-based practices, allowing me to create experiences that are both structurally safe and emotionally meaningful.🤍☺️ Through Ikigai Ropes, I offer sessions, classes and workshops, as well as artistic projects that explore rope as a language of connection, presence and transformation. The Vulnerability of Shibari 🪢 Self Suspension Performance by @ikigairopes & @mujerzuela.ownsyou This April 23 at @zoryablue in Brno ✨ The Vulnerability of Shibari is a solo aerial piece based on self-tying and rope suspension. Through slow movement and breath, the body enters a space of surrender and transformation. Suspended between earth and sky, rope becomes a symbolic thread connecting body and presence— a quiet dialogue between strength and fragility, where vulnerability reveals itself as a place of deep connection. I can’t wait to meet you there ✨ #ikigairopes #performance #shibariart #ropeartist by @ikigairopes
Happy 24/07 🖤 These photos are from my first performance at Luxuria Party in Budapest, a night I will always remember. Stepping onto that stage for the first time was both exciting and deeply meaningful. Every performance marks a new chapter in my journey as an artist, and I'm grateful to everyone who has trusted and supported my work along the way. I wore a custom nude latex costume designed by @mujerzuela.ownsyou and beautifully handcrafted by @rubberkiss. Thank you for bringing my vision to life. Thank you to the @luxuria_party_international team for the invitation, and to everyone who shared that unforgettable night with me. More performances are coming. 🖤✨✨✨ #ikigairopes #selfsuspension #shibari by @ikigairopes
My relationship with ropes ✨🌾 ENG/ESP I have been weaving since childhood. That is why, when I discovered shibari, I was drawn to the aesthetics of weaving on the body. I was also drawn to the sensuality and eroticism of those photographs of Japanese women tied in a traditional way. In my sessions, architecture, art and weaving come together. The person receiving the ropes is at the centre of a work of art that I build through their body, their movement, their expression and the transitions that emerge during the session. This composition grows out of conscious listening: listening to the person I am tying and supporting them in listening to their own body. A living, ephemeral work of art that is undone when the session ends. In that process of creating and undoing, we share a unique and intimate experience. #shibari #selftying #ikigairopes by @ikigairopes

ACT III — THE LIGHT ✨🌞 This photoshoot was inspired by Alejandro Jodorowsky’s @alejandro.jodorowsky - El Topo, unfolding through three acts. The mole lives beneath the earth, digging through darkness in search of the light. But when it finally reaches the surface, the light blinds it. The true journey is not from darkness into light. It is from blindness into awareness. In this third and final act, gold represents a light that has been conquered — transformation, awakening, and the decision to finally see. The face painting is inspired by Selk’nam visual traditions. As a Chilean artist, I wanted to bring elements connected to the cultures and histories of the territory I come from into my own artistic language — approached as inspiration and remembrance, rather than as a reproduction of ceremonial meaning. #eltopo #ikigairopes by @ikigairopes
ACT III — AWARENESS✨🪄 Inspired by Alejandro Jodorowsky’s @alejandro.jodorowsky El Topo and its metaphor of the mole digging beneath the earth in search of the light — only to be blinded when it finally reaches the surface. Perhaps the deepest darkness is not beneath the earth. Perhaps it is believing that everyone lives under the same sun. To live in freedom while remaining blind to those who are still fighting for theirs is another form of darkness. The final act is not about reaching the light. It is about opening our eyes. 👁️✨✨✨ 🎵 Gracias a la Vida — Violeta Parra One of the most emblematic works of Chilean music and poetry. Violeta gives thanks to life while holding its beauty, love, loss and sorrow together. Her words belong to this final act because awareness does not mean turning away from beauty — it means seeing life in its entirety and still recognizing its value. #eltopo #ikigairopes #violetaparra #jodorowsky by @ikigairopes
