Thanks to the good folks at @google , I pulled up to @urbanartsorg in NY to talk music, purpose, and creative freedom with CEO @pipcourtneynyc and rising producer @days.avenue , an alum, ambassador, and future problem-solver. We got into the nerd stuff too, of course.
Thanks to a powerful connection through Google and @ariennexox , UNAPOLOGETIC. will be partnering with Urban Arts to help remodel their sound lab... where students are literally making the soundtracks to the games they create. That’s the kind of full-circle impact I live for.
These students are learning code, animation, storytelling, and music through game design. That’s everything I wish I had access to at that age. It’s personal. It’s purpose. It’s the work.

If you’ve followed my stories, you know I was featured on @hypebeast and @hypegolf last Friday, as they presented the IMAKEMADBEATS City Guide for Memphis ahead of the @fedexchamp on the @pgatour. I wanted to let it rock on their page before posting it to mine, so for those who missed it, here it is. This was the first time I’ve ever been styled in my life, aside from my Dad dressing me as a child lol. @rawmixter you got the gift bro. Your eye is insane. Since 2008, my music has been being placed in TV, movies, games and more. It’s been a wild ride, but this is how I went from struggling day to day artist to the creation of passive income that changed my life… and essentially set me up to have the mental bandwidth to eventually create @weareunapologetic. Over 200 placements. From the Olympics to the Super Bowl. It’s wild. And now I get to do that with my team, and eventually artists from all over the city and the world 💪🏾💪🏾💪🏾💪🏾. Yup. It’s been my game plan since day one to expand this offering in a way that does for many artists what it did for me. The challenge in making that happen is having enough hands and minds on deck… but we’re working on that 👍🏾.
And of course, the music in this video is ya boy.

Hey @seextwo. Just wanna say this really meant something to me. Thank you for seeing me.
I have this crazy idea that I can help people without having to hurt people first. This music archetype of "I do things that are clearly harmful/hurtful/lethal until I'm rich doing that... and THEN I'll show up, help people..."... I'm tired of that my guy. There's gotta be clear examples of people who helped people the whole time... who didn't have to align themselves with hurtful things or people to make it.
To accomplish this in my industry, yeah, I know. Crazy idea.

During my time at @uofmccfa I worked with some amazing folks and was able to bring a few of my favorite stories to life. Happy to announce that both of the short music documentaries that I completed while at the @uofmemphis have been accepted into the @indiememphis film festival this year! Telling stories of local talent here in Memphis is something I won’t ever stop doing. I have about 6 more similar stories (among a few other things) to tell once I stop being insanely busy with school and have the capacity to edit them. Extremely grateful for the opportunity to share my work with everyone in a greater capacity 🥹🥹

Both films will play on Nov. 7 at the Halloran Center starting at 11:15am.

1) Behind the Mask - a documentary about @imakemadbeats

This story dives into his beginnings and what the mask really means to him as a person and artist. There are things we do as artists to hide ourselves and IMAKEMADBEATS is no stranger to that. If you only know him as one entity, then be prepared to hear a new aspect of his life that perhaps you haven’t heard before.

2) To Bend To the Will of a Dream That’s Being Fulfilled - a documentary about @marcella.simien @marcellasimienmusic

I asked Marcella about doing this for my school project back in 2024 and at the time, unbeknownst to me, she was also releasing a new album. After talking, we decided to lean into that aspect and she opens up about struggles she faced growing up and how she’s come to rely on holistic healing and those who came before her. With unseen footage from her @offthewallsarts show, you’ll be able to understand her a little bit better and appreciate her and her art in a new way.

My first introduction to @imakemadbeats was back in pre-pandemic times. I shot some photos for AWFM’s The Red Show because I was getting to photography back then and wanted to gain more experience in the music scene. Downloaded the UNAPOLOGETIC. World app and sent a message asking if I could come through, and was told yes.

Fast forward, and I ran into him again at MEM’s Tambourine Bash and then yet again at a Music Biz conference. Each time, we barely spoke. Short greetings and your typical “how are you” convos cause as an introvert, I avoid deep conversations like the plague.

Perhaps running into him so many times in a short span of time could’ve been seen as a sign, but I didn’t listen to myself or what the universe was telling me. Wasn’t completely ready to get out of my comfort zone. That was in 2018/2019 if I’m not mistaken.

Now in 2026, I can say that it’s okay to jump sometimes. Cause that fall is probably only 2 feet deep instead of 10 😅 by @imakemadbeats

We used to go to our various friends houses, install software on THEIR computer, just to make beats for an hour or so, record it on a battery powered handheld tapedeck I had using the line in, and be out... before we had a computer. I can list several friends who were on my "where can I make a beat?" list.
And before it was the @wyxr_memphis we know now, I'd use the tuner on that handheld to go to 91.7fm, play jazz, and use the same aux cable to go out of that into the computer to sample straight off the radio. I'd just record a few minutes of jazz or classical music, then try to find a sample in it. It's crazy that I now have a show on that radio station. lol. One day I'm gonna get on FB and tell y'all some of the other things I used to do just to be able to make music.
I meet a lot of people now... young people... who will try to convince me of "how much they want it."
I know what that looks like... and one of the first things I'm looking for is this:
If it wasn't easy to do it, would you still do it?
If access was harder, or required strategy or extra energy, perhaps more energy and strategy than your peers, cost you more... would you still do it?
And while doing more than others, finding ways, using extra energy... do you still feel mostly thankful for the opportunity to be able do it?
One of my friends with a computer lived right down the street from my Grandma. I'd leave his house walking there with a few new beats... listening to them on headphones.
