POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

A lot of y’all picked “self acceptance” in my last post. You’re partially right. Actually, all of you are in one way or another.
Needless to say, it’s about to get real honest ‘round here. I might go live and talk about it. We’ll see. ☕️ 🫖

Premiering two documentaries at @indiememphis isn’t something I ever thought I’d do. Not because I couldn’t, but being a filmmaker wasn’t something little me thought about. I loved animals growing up and was convinced I’d be a vet. Then got introduced to music photography from watching Warped Roadies on MTV and that’s where my love of storytelling through photos came from. Ended up getting a music business degree from @uofmscheidt (which has now been named one of Billboard’s Top Global Music Business School 😭😭 insaannee) which led to my discovery of videography and editing which THEN led to what my life is now. The rest is a longer story for another time.

Tickets now live at the link in my bio. Come say hi and support local talent. Lotta great films being played by an amazing group of folks.

In this intimate conversation, Marcella Simien joins us in discussing her transformative journey of delving into her family roots while overcoming a decade-long battle with an autoimmune disease and ADHD. After embracing a holistic lifestyle, she has channeled her experiences into her new album, "To Bend To The Will Of A Dream That's Being Fulfilled", that explores new levels of artistry, love and life, ultimately redefining who she is. With unseen footage from her Off the Walls Arts show, you’ll be able to understand her a little bit better and appreciate her and her art in a new way.

@imakemadbeats , a Memphis native and CEO/Founder of @weareunapologetic , grew up immersed in the city’s unmistakable sonic identity. Despite that, he felt disconnected from the creative paths it nurtured. Seeking a space where his musical wizardry could thrive, he ventured beyond his hometown, eventually landing at Manhattan’s legendary Quad Studios, where he became a sought-after ghost producer, crafting sonic spells for some of hip-hop’s elite while also finding a niche in scoring for film and television. His compositions would go on to be featured by major companies like NBC, ABC, HBO, DC Shoes, Oxygen and more. Guided by the belief that music could speak without words—a philosophy later embodied in his debut instrumental EP, Better Left Unsaid—he further conjured the IMAKEMADBEATS p

Memphis was “amazin’ and a blessin’!” ❤️🙏

What an honour it was to travel to Tennessee to represent Nelson the Giant at the Like You Children’s Film Festival.

While our writer and director, Matthew Todd, couldn’t be there in person, I was so grateful to make the journey with my co-pilot, Todd Gemmill, who took the wheel and made sure I got everywhere I needed to go! 😊

The warmth, kindness, music, creativity, and inspiring soul of Memphis and its people truly touched my heart.

Along our journey, we spotted a truck with a quote that hit home: “DREAM BIG - miles to go before I sleep.” With Nelson the Giant, we certainly have miles to go. We truly believe its message of kindness can make a lasting, positive difference in the lives of children and communities everywhere.

As Matthew shared in a clip from a previous screening (featured in this reel):

“We are changing the world every day; it’s up to us whether we change it for the better.”

Join us on our journey…
If you would like to learn more about supporting and helping Nelson the Giant reach more hearts through the arts, please reach out. 🌎❤️

This reel captures just a few of the meaningful, fun, and memorable moments from our time in Memphis—set to the beautiful Nelson the Giant soundtrack, arranged and orchestrated by Anthony White! 🎼 @anthonyewhitecomposer

Thank you to the Like You Children’s Film Festival for welcoming Nelson the Giant with such open hearts, and thank you, Memphis, for the memories, warmth, and kindness. Special thanks to De’Rika for her heartfelt guest care!

From an afternoon visit to the historic Peabody Hotel, and an incredible time on Beale Street, experiencing the inspiring live music at B.B. King’s Blues Club, to getting to play the piano in the lobby of the charming Memphian Hotel in lovely Overton Square - it was truly an amazin’ and blessin’ time in Memphis! We are so very thankful to everyone who made this possible.

During my time at @uofmccfa I worked with some amazing folks and was able to bring a few of my favorite stories to life. Happy to announce that both of the short music documentaries that I completed while at the @uofmemphis have been accepted into the @indiememphis film festival this year! Telling stories of local talent here in Memphis is something I won’t ever stop doing. I have about 6 more similar stories (among a few other things) to tell once I stop being insanely busy with school and have the capacity to edit them. Extremely grateful for the opportunity to share my work with everyone in a greater capacity 🥹🥹

Both films will play on Nov. 7 at the Halloran Center starting at 11:15am.

1) Behind the Mask - a documentary about @imakemadbeats

This story dives into his beginnings and what the mask really means to him as a person and artist. There are things we do as artists to hide ourselves and IMAKEMADBEATS is no stranger to that. If you only know him as one entity, then be prepared to hear a new aspect of his life that perhaps you haven’t heard before.

2) To Bend To the Will of a Dream That’s Being Fulfilled - a documentary about @marcella.simien @marcellasimienmusic

I asked Marcella about doing this for my school project back in 2024 and at the time, unbeknownst to me, she was also releasing a new album. After talking, we decided to lean into that aspect and she opens up about struggles she faced growing up and how she’s come to rely on holistic healing and those who came before her. With unseen footage from her @offthewallsarts show, you’ll be able to understand her a little bit better and appreciate her and her art in a new way.

Much love to you both for trusting me with your lives and stories and honored to know you 💛

Tickets go on sale Monday!

My first introduction to @imakemadbeats was back in pre-pandemic times. I shot some photos for AWFM’s The Red Show because I was getting to photography back then and wanted to gain more experience in the music scene. Downloaded the UNAPOLOGETIC. World app and sent a message asking if I could come through, and was told yes.

Fast forward, and I ran into him again at MEM’s Tambourine Bash and then yet again at a Music Biz conference. Each time, we barely spoke. Short greetings and your typical “how are you” convos cause as an introvert, I avoid deep conversations like the plague.

Perhaps running into him so many times in a short span of time could’ve been seen as a sign, but I didn’t listen to myself or what the universe was telling me. Wasn’t completely ready to get out of my comfort zone. That was in 2018/2019 if I’m not mistaken.

Now in 2026, I can say that it’s okay to jump sometimes. Cause that fall is probably only 2 feet deep instead of 10 😅
