💬 What was your last read, and what did you rate it? ✨

You guys omg, this book was so fun! I inhaled it in a day. It’s funny, fast-paced, and packed with adventure & banter. This is basically a fantasy romcom/comedic romantasy set in Asphodel (aka “hell”, but not quite, because Tartarus also exists here). There‘s a deal with the devil, forced proximity, and supernatural trials, which I loved!

I went in expecting Sath to be your typical bland, broody MMC with shadow powers, but he’s so much more. He comes off scary at first but once you get to know him he’s so gentle! He’s also charming yet vulnerable, and his inner turmoil was so heart-touching. His dynamic with Willow was electric, and their teasing banter was SO entertaining!

Willow herself was equally fun to follow. She’s bold, sassy, and a little reckless. She’s been dealt a bad b hand in life, and I appreciated how the story showed her struggles with mental health and the emotional baggage she carries. Her character development was satisfying overall, though her big shift at the end did feel a little sudden. Still, I loved rooting for her the whole way through! There’s also a found family element. And the world of Asphodel felt so well-developed; the author did such a good job! I definitely look forward to reading more from her.

Overall, a fun standalone romantasy romp through hell with a unique twist on the classic “deal with the devil” trope. Also, that cover is simply gorgeous!!

Thank you @simonteen for the gifted ARC! Out now in the UK and out next week (30.09) in the US 🥰

Two for Tuesday! 🦊☕️

💬 Recommend some duologies you loved!

Still not over how gorgeous these @fairyloot editions of The God and the Gumiho + The God and the Gwisin by @sophiekimwrites are! I loved this duology, it was such a fun time and highly bingeable! The banter and chemistry in the first book especially were 🤌 Highly recommend if you’re in a slump!

Also, I finally watched KPop Demon Hunters this past weekend and it was so fun! The soundtrack has been playing on repeat 😂 Have you watched it yet??

💬 What’s your favorite myth, fairytale, or legend you love to see retold?

Happy Friday eve! So ready for this week to be over 😩

Pictured is the stunning @thelockedlibrary edition of The Enemy’s Daughter by Melissa Poett. The synopsis sounded right up my alley. It’s a dystopian retelling of the Tristan and Isolde myth, which I’m not very familiar with, but it sounds so good! I’ll pop the synopsis in the comments if anyone’s interested.

💬 What’s a trope everyone hates that you secretly love? 👀

I adore love triangles - I’ll eat them up every time!

I binged Lore of the Wilds and Lore of the Tides during a reading slump, and this duology ended up being such a fun surprise! It’s fast-paced yet cozy, and the romance had me giggling and kicking my feet. I initially put it off because of the mixed reviews, but I honestly had a blast! It does read very YA, but I didn’t mind.

I also really appreciated the genuine slow burn. Like… actual slow burn! In this economy?! 🤩🤌

Thematically, I loved the emphasis on liberation, resistance, and found family. There were several moments that genuinely made me tear up 🥹 I’m pretty satisfied with the ending, though there are still some unresolved questions/loose ends.

If you’re after an easy-to-read duology with fun tropes, this is a great pick! Think green academia romantasy with a cozy, cottagecore vibe. It was the ideal summer binge, and I’m so excited to see what Analeigh Sbrana writes next!

💬 Who is an author you tried for the first time this year, and would you read more?

Happy release day to The Maiden and Her Monster! 🤍🌿🕯️

Thoughts:
From the moment I saw this compared to Where the Dark Stands Still and The Bear and the Nightingale, I knew I had to read it. I’m always drawn to fantasies with forests, and this one delivered a world full of rich mythology and inventive lore.

I especially enjoyed the exploration of power, politics, and faith. I really admired the way Maddie Martinez wove in commentary on how religion can be shaped, or even distorted, by those seeking control. These themes gave the story depth, and I appreciated the thoughtfulness in how they were handled.

Where I struggled was with the pacing and plot. At times the pacing felt uneven, and the romance felt like “instalove”, which made it harder for me to stay fully connected. The book also veers away from the blurb at around 40%. The sentient forest completely disappears, and the politics takes over the story as our characters venture to the capitol city to save the Golem’s creator.

I still enjoyed it overall - I just wasn’t anticipating that shift from magical dark forest fairytale to theological focus, which lessened my enjoyment and overall rating.

3.5⭐️

Definitely pick this up if you enjoy:
🌿 dark fantasy standalone
🌿 jewish mythology
🌿 reluctant allies to lovers
🌿 sapphic
🌿 golem retelling
🌿 sentient forest

💬 What was your first read of September? 🍂

This was mine, and it hooked me almost instantly! She Didn’t See It Coming is a twisty mix of domestic thriller, whodunnit, and police procedural. My first Shari Lapena, and I was locked in by chapter 2 🤌

When Bryden Frost fails to pick up her child from school, she is reported missing by her husband. Told through multiple POVs, everyone close to her has something to hide.

I loved how at the start, everything looks picture-perfect, but then as the investigation unfolds, the cracks show and every character gets a little messier. You’re basically part of the case, trying to sort through red herrings and shifting suspicions, which made it really addictive!

Would definitely recommend if you’re looking for a one-sit read to binge!

Thank you @bantambooksuk @sharilapena for the gifted copy! 🫶

💬 What’s your favourite booksta photo prop or location?

If you can’t already tell, mine is my wooden tray 🤣

I’ve been a little bored of my insta lately, so I’ve started experimenting with some more casual, snap-and-go photos (just every now and then for those mornings where I cba 😅). I’m also trying out different angles/spots around the house, so bear with me while I play around with editing and stuff, and lmk what you think!

Happy September! And happy release day to A Storm in Every Heart by Kate King 🧜‍♀️✨

The Little Mermaid x The Princess Bride, this is one I’ve been so excited to get my hands on and it’s officially out in the world today! Huge thank you to @katekingauthor for sending these goodies my way!

𝐒 𝐘 𝐍 𝐎 𝐏 𝐒 𝐈 𝐒:
Odessa Ashwater knows there’s a fine line between love and hate.
Loving a siren inevitably leads to death or insanity. Nevertheless, after Dessa rescued Crown Prince Kastian of Hydratta from drowning, she was convinced they were destined for each other.
Now, a century later, she’s sure the only thing they’re fated for is to destroy each other.

Kastian Stormbreaker is unshakable. Many years ago, he lost his family, his crown, his freedom, and the opportunity to find his soul-bonded mate all in a single night. Now, nothing can break through his calm facade. Nothing, except the mesmerizing siren whose captivating beauty and fierce animosity he can’t resist.

When an enemy from Kastian’s past asks for Odessa’s hand in marriage, she views it as an ideal chance to form a strategic alliance for her court while distancing herself from Kas. But when the engagement turns deadly and Odessa gets in over her head, Kastian is the only one who can save her from drowning.

💬 Do you prefer character-driven or plot-driven stories? 🚀

Today’s post features An Unbreakable World by Ren Hutchings, a cosy, character-driven space opera with a mystery twist! I had so much fun with this one!

Page Found (yes that’s her name lol) is a petty thief with amnesia who gets kidnapped/coerced into joining a super dangerous heist.

Alongside her, we have 2 other POVs - Maelle and Dayla - that switch between past and present. The characters are super compelling. I loved puzzling out what each POV has to do with the other and how their stories connected. As the mystery unfolded, I found myself gravitating towards Dalya’s chapters most. There’s also a found family element and lots of banter, along with intergalactic subterfuge and piracy. What more could you want??

The worldbuilding is fantastic as I’m a sucker for stories told through multimedia. There’s a mix of transcripts, academic papers, comms recordings, encyclopaedia entries, even catalogue snippets. It made the world feel rich and layered without ever bogging things down.

If you’re into cosy sci-fi with suspense, banter, intergalactic subterfuge, and a dash of political intrigue and religious interrogation, this one delivers! Out 09.09.2025 ✨

Thank you @bookramblerpr @solarisbooks @voidcricket for this copy and for having me on the tour! 🫶
