At 300 weekly donations, the In Giving community has donated £150,000 together since December 2021. An amazing milestone! Thank you to everyone who donates £1 each week to make it possible 🎈🥳🎉🎁 #charity #community #donations #give #support by @ingiving500
Week 300!! That's £150,000 we've given away together since we started, which is just amazing! This week our cause was suggested by Alison Green: Emma  Emma recently suffered a very sudden family bereavement and as a result now has her mum living with her, who has dementia. Emma has had to stop working to care for her, and as a freelance musician, this has had a massive financial impact. Not to mention how completely stopping work to care for a loved one can cut you off from the world, especially for an individual used to spending days making music with others. Our donation might not alleviate all of the financial pressure, but it is a gesture from 500 people looking to help, and I know that was appreciated by Emma. by @ingiving500
299 weeks of In Giving! This cause was suggested by Miriam Payne: Thahera In August Thahera was told that her sister Samia had aggressive stomach cancer before being admitted to hospice care in Croydon, South London. Based in Warrington, Thehera took leave from work and came down south, finding temporary accommodation and putting everything on pause to be with Samia. Miriam initially asked if we could help Thahera with living costs while she was off work and by her sister's side, but sadly in the time it took In Giving to get to supporting this suggestion, Samia died. And very sadly, there was a second bereavement in Thahera's family just weeks later. So we decided that the funds would still be beneficial as the family organises a second funeral and comes to terms with the losses. by @ingiving500
Our 298th donation of £500 has gone to a cause suggested by Monica McGhee: Jacob Nine-year-old Jacob was recently diagnosed with osteosarcoma, a rare form of bone cancer. The family travelled to New York to seek a second opinion and specialist treatment due to the expertise there for Jacob’s type of cancer. The team there offered a surgical option that could avoid removing a key part of his femur — the section that controls the growth and length of his leg. This option would not have been available in the UK. The family stayed in the US while awaiting the full treatment plan, and eventually Jacob did have two major surgeries in the US and is now back home and recovering. This diagnosis, trip and subsequent recovery has brought many unexpected challenges and expenses as the family do their best to care for Jacob and his little brother, Hugo, during this incredibly difficult time. Back in the UK, Jacob is working to rebuild the strength and movement in his leg, having physio and strength appointments alongside regular hospital visits and scans. Our £500 will provide some support to the family during this period of upheaval as they work towards Jacob's recovery. by @ingiving500
For our 297th donation, we donated our £500 to a cause suggested by Elena Charalambous: Eliyas At just one year old, Eliyas was diagnosed with TUBB4A-related leukodystrophy, an ultra-rare genetic neurological condition that affects the brain's ability to send messages to the body. His condition was caused by a random genetic change, it was not inherited and is progressive, meaning precious skills can be lost over time. Every small milestone is hard-earned through intensive physiotherapy, determination, and extraordinary courage. While most children learn to sit, stand and walk without a second thought, Eliyas has to fight for every movement. Yet he never gives up. But there is hope. Eliyas has been accepted to receive personalised gene therapy in the United States, offering the possibility of slowing the progression of this devastating disease and preserving his precious neurological function. As the treatment is not funded by the NHS, his family are raising funds to help cover the costs of treatment, ongoing medical care, and the specialist therapies and equipment he needs. His aunt just ran a half marathon to raise funds for Eliyas. Her fundraising page is here: https://www.justgiving.com/crowdfunding/run4eliyas by @ingiving500
Our cause this week was suggested by Katherine Harri: Meinir Diagnosed with Stage 4 breast and bone cancer, Meinir has been given a terminal prognosis in the UK. But she has recently had very positive and life-affirming consultations with a specialist cancer centre in Germany, which offers advanced treatment options that are not currently available through the NHS. These treatments are beyond what the NHS can fund, but they have given Meinir real hope. She feels strongly that this treatment offers her a chance to respond positively to her illness and to live the rest of her life as fully as possible. Unfortunately, the cost of treatment, travel, and associated care is far beyond what she can afford. Time is also critical, as her condition is continuing to weaken. Her family have set up a fundraiser and are asking for support to help raise the funds needed for Meinir to travel to Germany and begin treatment as soon as possible. Our 295th donation of £500 went to a cause suggested by Rebecca Wannell: Another devastating house fire Sadly, once again we've sent our pounds to a family who have lost their home and all their belongings in a house fire. A couple and their 3 teenage children (as well as 3 dogs and a cat) have been left with nothing but the clothes they managed to escape in, but thankfully they did all make it out.  Now they are faced with the overwhelming reality of replacing everything - clothing, toiletries, school essentials, and eventually all of the home essentials you don't even think about until you lose it all. They are currently in temporary housing while they wait to sort something more permanent. Family members have set up an online fundraiser to ease the financial pressure on the family while they come to terms with everything they have lost, and start the road to creating a new home. This week our donation of £500 has gone to a cause suggested by Matthew Kofi Waldren: Satkirtan 13-year-old Satkirtan's life changed in July 2024 when he was diagnosed with a diffuse midline glioma (DIPG), a rare and aggressive form of brain tumour. Since that day, Satkirtan has navigated a challenging path of radiotherapy, clinical trials, and multiple treatment protocols. But sadly, recent scans have shown that the tumour is continuing to progress. Local specialists have informed the family that there are no further standard treatment options available to them, but a specialised medical centre in Germany has offered a potential lifeline through a personalised, integrative treatment approach. This includes advanced dendritic cell immunotherapy—a cutting edge method designed to stimulate the immune system to recognise and attack the cancer cells—combined with other supportive biological therapies. To secure this vital care, the family urgently needs to raise as much of the 32,000+ euro cost as possible to cover the upfront payment before treatment can begin. A fundraiser was set up to help the family raise the funds needed, which can be found here: https://www.justgiving.com/crowdfunding/satkirtan?utm_medium=CF&utm_source=CL by @ingiving500
Our 293rd donation of £500 has gone to a cause suggested by Tom Grimshaw: Jonny In February 2026 Jonny was diagnosed with Motor Neurone Disease (MND). In the pursuit of a diagnosis, Jonny and his wife Ana used all their savings, and Jonny has now been medically retired because of the progression of the disease. He has no life insurance and expenses are now falling on Ana while she supports him, including adapting their home, purchasing mobility equipment, and doing all she can to maintain his quality of life. Not wanting finances to be the reason that further treatment options or clinical trials can't be explored, Ana started a fundraiser, which can be found here: https://www.gofundme.com/f/support-jonnys-health-journey by @ingiving500
This week our £500 was sent to a cause suggested by Melodie Hornett: Junior Six weeks ago seven-year-old Junior unexpectedly suffered a stroke caused by a blood clot on his brain. He had emergency surgery and was put in an induced coma to aid recovery. Initially told that Junior would never speak or walk again, he has defied all expectations, starting to communicate, and now taking steps with assistance and the support of a leg brace. These first signs of his recovery have been extraordinary and his specialist paediatric neurologist has asked permission to take Junior’s case global, so that his journey can help show other doctors, specialists and families that there may be more hope for children facing devastating brain injuries than they initially realise. The waiting list for NHS rehabilitation is six months long, and the first three months following a stroke are particularly important for recovery and rehabilitation. With Junior already making such incredible progress, the family have started a fundraiser to help towards the costs of private physiotherapy, specialist rehabilitation, speech and language therapy, assessments and any additional support that will help Junior during his rehabilitation and recovery. As part of this next stage of recovery he will be having private rehabilitation with ARNI (Action for Rehabilitation from Neurological Injury). Junior will be receiving specialist physiotherapy and rehabilitation focused on helping him build his strength, movement, balance, coordination and independence. He will also have speech and language therapy to support his communication, cognition and swallowing, alongside rehabilitation to help him develop his ability to carry out everyday activities. The fundraiser is here: https://www.gofundme.com/f/a-stroke-wont-stop-junior?attribution_id=sl:d53d4239-8554-4a16-bd6b-c0c5572f5a3f&lang=en_GB&ts=1786286208&utm_campaign=fp_sharesheet&utm_content=amp30-control&utm_medium=customer&utm_source=copy_link by @ingiving500
Our donation this week was for a cause suggested by Kezia Bienek: James Musician and teacher James was diagnosed with Acute Leukemia in February. After two rounds of chemotherapy and a stem cell transplant, his immune system is weak and he was recently admitted to hospital with an infection, where he currently is. James is a beloved and highly respected pianist and teacher who has been nurturing young musicians in London for 20 years. As a freelancer he is unable to earn money whilst he undergoes treatment, and friends started up a crowdfunder for him to help cover his costs while he can't work. The fundraising page is here: https://www.justgiving.com/crowdfunding/james-bester?utm_medium=CF&utm_source=CL Pleased we were able to send our £500 over, so that finances are a little eased while he is going through this treatment. by @ingiving500
This week our cause was suggested by Kevin Dillon: Queenscourt Hospice Queenscourt Hospice in Southport, Merseyside, has been a mainstay of palliative care in the town for 35 years, but it is now facing a serious financial crisis and will have to cut services unless additional funding is found. Queenscourt Hospice is a local charity that provides end of life support and care for the people of West Lancashire, Southport and Formby, caring for patients with serious illnesses and enabling them to achieve the best possible quality of life at each new stage. The charity cares for patients both in the hospice and at home through their services. Queenscourt requires over 100 professional staff members to stay open, including doctors, nurses, healthcare assistants, physiotherapists and many other roles. As well as the in-patient care that the hospice provides, their service Queenscourt at Home provides planned care-shifts for patients who have a far advanced, progressive and life-limiting illness and who want to be cared for in their own homes. Healthcare assistants provide support and care at home for patients and their families, day or night, reviewing the patient's condition and liaising with other organisations. They also offer accompanied transfers home to aid transitions between living environments, and run a volunteer programme to provide non-clinical support and friendship to patients at the end of life and their families.
