Foundations training is an opportunity to work on how your skills fit together—with observation, feedback and time to refine. This is a moment from a skills exercise, not a complete demonstration.

Being a capable diver and helping another person become one are connected skills. They are not interchangeable.

@innerspace_explorers instructor training addresses demonstrating skills and communicating them to others. My interest is in making learning clear, observable and useful.

“Good dive” is a fine start. It is not much of a debrief.

Before the details fade, ask what worked, what changed, what each teammate noticed and what you will practise next.

Keep the discussion specific and curious. The aim is to understand the dive and make the next session more useful—not to win the conversation.

DIR is a system. Not a shopping list.

Equipment matters, but it makes sense alongside skills, teamwork, planning and consistent procedures. Buying the same kit as someone else does not give you their competence.

Understand what each part of the system is there to do. Then practise using it as part of a team.

A matching outfit is not a dive plan.

I’m Liam. I teach divers to understand what they are doing - and why.

One good frame is not a trim strategy.

Video lets you look at the approach, the task and what happens afterwards. It is much more useful when you describe what you can actually see, review it with your instructor and choose one specific thing to improve.

Then film again. Look for repeatable control, not a flattering screenshot.
