We are a UK based team of young bird watchers birding around the country, taking part in events and enjoying nature.

The @globalbirding May Big Day was a huge success despite the rain! 🌧️
.
The Instabirders team managed a fantastic total of 173 species- just 9 off our October record 🥳 Although the weather was rather horrendous for most of the day, we all made a brilliant effort.
The 15 of us were dotted all round the country including sites in Kent, Cornwall, North Norfolk, Cumbria, Yorkshire and Lincolnshire. Highlights included Buff-breasted Sandpiper, Bonaparte's Gull, Jack Snipe, Grasshopper Warbler and Little Tern.
.
Thank you to every single one of the Instabirders who took part and made this another amazing birding day 🤩
.
And remember- there is still time to donate to our fundraising page and give some money towards BirdLife Internationals' cause to stop the illegal killing of birds. Follow the link in our bio to donate, we really would appreciate it ☺️

We will be taking part in the @globalbirding and @team_ebird May Big Day event on May 8th 2021.
Like last time, we will be spread all across the country trying to see how many species of bird we can see over the day.
We will also be joining in with the fundraising again! Raising money for @birdlife_insta to stop the illegal killing of birds on their migration.
Please, follow the link in the bio and donate what you can to this great cause.

To get the new year off to a great start we did a New Year Big Day on January 1st, visiting our local patches and recording as many bird species as possible.

.
Some of were: Waxwing, Iceland Gull, Yellow-browed Warbler, Dipper, Long-tailed Duck and Kingfisher (and of course Long-tailed Tit @matthew_broadbent_nature 😂).

Yesterday, the Instabirders collectively walked 151,322 steps! That’s the same number of kilometres travelled by a Turnstone flying, 5 times, from its wintering grounds, in the UK, to its breeding grounds, in Greenland or Arctic Canada!

The Instabirders collectively walked a total of 124,389 steps yesterday. Divide it by 1000, and, In km, that’s just over a 1/3 the distance a Swallow can fly in a single day on its migration from the UK to South Africa!

Swallows can travel up to 320km (over 200miles) in a single day! After spending the spring and summer months in the UK, they travel down through western France and eastern Spain into Morocco, before crossing the Sahara Desert and the Congo rainforest – finally reaching South Africa and Namibia.
