Human touch is a sacred art form.

In a world that is becoming increasingly digital, and where so much of our lives are being taken over by technology and AI, I truly believe that human touch is becoming one of the most precious things we have.

The warmth of another person.
The feeling of being held.
The connection that exists without a word spoken.

Some things cannot be replicated by a machine.

And perhaps.. in a world that is moving faster than ever before.. the most beautiful thing we can offer one another is the simple, intentional act of human touch.

You cannot want change more than someone wants it for themselves.

Something I feel really strongly about in the work I do.. is personal (client) responsibility.

Coming to see your energy practitioner, attending a session or having someone guide you through an experience.. can only take you so far.

I can support you.. I can guide you.. I can hold space for you.. I can even offer you tools and help you explore things that perhaps you haven’t looked at or thought about before.

But I cannot create change in your life for you.

You can tell me you want things to be different. You can recognise that certain habits.. behaviours.. patterns or beliefs are not serving you very well. You can even know exactly what needs to change.

But knowing that something needs to change and being willing to actually do something about it are two very different things.

And that is where your part.. as the client comes in.

You have to want it.
You have to be willing to look at the things you have perhaps been avoiding.
You have to make different choices.
You have to take action.
You have to participate in your own growth.

Not perfectly.. but willingly.

Because no matter how beautiful the session is, how powerful the experience was, or how much support you receive, I cannot do that part for you.

My role is not to fix you.. rescue you or take responsibility for your life.

My role is to support you, guide you and empower you along the way.

You are the driver. I am here to support you on the journey, but you still have to be willing to take control of the wheel.

There are no words in this whole entire universe to describe this feeling.

A kind of bliss that moves through every cell of my body. A sensuality that cannot be explained… only felt.

Like dancing with something so ancient, incredibly wild… and exquisitely beautiful.

Nothing to chase.

Nothing to become.

Just surrendering to the energy moving through my body, allowing myself to feel… to play… to be completely immersed in the moment.

Some things cannot be put into words.

They have to be felt… to be believed.

Kundalini.

There is nothing quite like it.

This clip was taken by @zoebutler.bodywhisperer at @chelseafaye__ facilitator training in Melbourne earlier this year, during the women’s embodiment and Kundalini activation group journey we held at the end of our training.

Kundalini energy has changed my life… in every aspect of it. And all for the better.

This weekend marks a very special first for me. My very first sold out group event, held right here in Christchurch, where I will be co-facilitating alongside the incredible @monique_elouise, visiting from Melbourne.

A little moment to acknowledge how far I have come, and all that is still unfolding.

Here’s to the first of many.

One of the things I wish more people understood about learning/offering bodywork is that technique is only part of the whole picture.

Of course we need to learn how to work with the body, we quite obviously need to develop our own technique, perfect our skills and understand what we are doing with the body and why.

But… perhaps less obviously, becoming a truly intuitive, attuned practitioner is also about learning how to observe, listen and respond accordingly to the person in front of us.

These are five things I pay attention to in my own practice, and they are observations I have developed through experience and through working with many different people.

They are not rules, and they are certainly not a way to diagnose what someone is feeling. They are just reminders to stay present, to keep learning and approach every single client as an individual.

Because the more we learn to notice the more subtle cues, the more thoughtfully and intentionally we can work.

And I truly believe that is a skill worth developing.

Sometimes… the most important thing I can do in a session is intentionally slow myself down.

We never really know what someone is carrying when they arrive in our space. What their day has looked like, what’s been on their mind, or what their nervous system might need in that very moment.

And this is where I think our own energy becomes really important.

Sometimes, the most supportive thing I can do as a practitioner is slow everything right down.

Slower.
Calmer.
More grounded.

I become really intentional with the pace of my strokes. I soften my movements that wee bit more. I allow more space between each transition. My intention is to create an environment where they feel like they have permission to pause.

This is something I find so fascinating about the work I do.

Frequency. Resonance. The way we respond to the energy around us. It may sound a little “woo woo” but our energy plays a huge role in everything we do and experience.

Think about tuning forks. When one is struck, its vibration can create resonance in another.

Our bodies are not tuning forks, per se.. but there is something beautiful about the way our nervous systems respond to the presence.. the pace and the energy of another person.

We may not always be able to control what someone is experiencing when they walk through the door, but we can be intentional about what we bring into the room.

We can choose not to rush.
We can choose to move with more awareness.
We can intentionally create more space for a different experience.

This work isn’t just about the techniques we use or the strokes of our hands.

It’s also about the quality of our presence.

I truly believe that one of the most powerful things we can offer another person is our own grounded steadiness.

Once I have completed the consultation process and my client is lying on the massage table… this is when I begin my opening practice.

I NEVER immediately jump into hands-on bodywork. Instead… I have a specific opening practice that I follow with every bodywork and Reiki client.

(My women’s embodiment journeys and Kundalini activations have their own unique opening practices)

I like to create a gradual transition into entering my clients energy field and before any physical touch… giving myself the opportunity to fully arrive in the session while also allowing my client time to settle into the experience as well.

I begin down at the feet, bringing my full awareness to the person in front of me before slowly introducing touch. From there, I follow my own intentional sequence, gradually moving up the body before the hands-on bodywork begins.

This is quite different from just beginning a massage with your first technique.

There is thought behind how I approach the body, how I introduce touch and how I create a sense of continuity from the very beginning of a session right until the end.

These are the finer details of bodywork that I find so fascinating. The things that might not appear on a treatment menu, but that can become such an important part of developing your own approach as a practitioner.

And they are the kinds of things I love sharing with other practitioners who want to deepen their understanding of the work.

Because learning the techniques is one thing… Learning how to bring your own awareness, intention, presence and unique touch into the experience is another.

Do you have your own unique opening practice/ritual?

I became a fully booked practitioner with fewer than 2,000 followers, within just 1.5 years in the industry… all while working around school hours and my family.

And if I had to start all over again, I would absolutely still use social media. But I would NOT rely on it alone. And I never did in the beginning either.

Word of mouth, Google, networking and collaborations all played a huge part in creating opportunities for my business. (You don’t need to do it alone)

Social media is a great free tool. Definitely use it if you enjoy it. It’s a great way to share your work.

But remember that building a business and building a following are NOT the same thing. (Although they can absolutely complement each other)

My advice? Focus on the experience you provide, the relationships you build and the reputation you create.

Because you don’t actually need thousands of followers to build a successful business that works for you.

There is just something so beautiful about being someone’s constant 🥹🤍

A space they return to.

A little time that belongs just to them.

Something they intentionally choose.. again and again.. even when life gets difficult or busy.

This morning was another reminder of just how much I ADORE what I do.

The incredible women I get to work with, the trust they place in me, and the privilege of being part of their lives in this way.

Sometimes I am genuinely brought to tears by how much I love this work. By the deep connections I have formed.. the conversations had.. and the little moments that remind me just how meaningful this work is.

This is my calling.

And I feel so incredible grateful that it’s mine 🤍

A Kundalini Activation Journey at the beautiful @kulastudionz with the gorgeous @monique_elouise 🐍🤍

These experiences make me feel SOOOOO ALIVE!

There is just something about this work… the electric energy… the beat of the music... the connection and the magic of bringing INCREDIBLE WOMEN together that just lights me up in a way I can’t quite put into words.

I am still buzzing from today… and I am already thinking about the next one.

Let’s do it again Christchurch!!! 🤍

I just have to come on here and say a massive THANKYOU to the beautiful @monique_elouise 🤍

Monique and I first connected on Instagram through our very similar interests. Reiki, Yin yoga, Kundalini… you know… those slightly unique interests that not everyone quite understands 😂

Over time we discovered that we had both grown up in and around Christchurch. Then yesterday, when we finally met in person for the very first time, we realised we had even worked at the same clothing store, under the same boss, just a few years apart! 😂

And then today… after months of chatting, planning and creating a sold-out event together, we came together to hold a Kundalini Activation Journey right here in Christchurch @kulastudionz alongside 11 beautiful women.

What an INCREDIBLE EXPERIENCE it was!!!

Monique… thankyou so much for sharing your gifts with us all. For the beautiful energy you brought into the space, and for holding space so incredibly for every woman who joined us today. It was such a privilege to bring this experience to life together, and I am so grateful we did.

There is something really special about the connections we make when we follow the things that genuinely light us up.

What started as a connection through a screen has led to a friendship (the power of social media hey?!) a shared passion and now an experience we have created together in the real world.

And I have a feeling there is more where that came from. Let’s create more! 🤍

I feel so grateful our paths crossed Monique. Thankyou for coming to Christchurch and for sharing this experience with me. It was so special to do this together.

I always like to tell my clients that the session itself is only approximately 20% of the whole experience. The other 80% is integration.

Integration is such an important part of this work, yet it’s something we don’t always give ourselves enough time or space for.

It’s not all about chasing an experience in the session. It’s about making space for what that experience might mean in your life afterwards.

Giving yourself the permission to slow down, notice what comes up for you in those days after… and allow things to unfold in their own time.

Because the work doesn’t end when the session does.
