I’m a physician who is board certified in psychiatry and sleep medicine, with additional certification in Integrative Psychiatry and currently training in functional medicine.

Treating sleep well starts with taking a good sleep history.

Before you can create an effective treatment plan, you need to have the right diagnosis.

Something I tell clinicians in our programs is: The quality of your treatment plan depends on the quality of questions you ask.

In yesterday’s Integrative Sleep Institute “Skills Lab”, I demonstrated how to take a thorough sleep history, then two brave clinicians jumped in to practice with a live role play.

This is the kind of learning I love!

The more opportunities you have to practice these skills, get feedback, and discuss real clinical scenarios, the more competent you become.

Taking a sleep history becomes second nature, as you start to know which questions to ask and how to put the pieces together.

This is the art of clinical practice.
