on June 19th, 1865, General Order No. 3 was issued by a Union soldier named General Gordon Granger

this Order informed Texans that all enslaved people were now free (this came about two and a half years after Abraham Lincoln signed the Emancipation Proclamation in 1863)

an original copy of the Order is currently on display inside the Hall of State at Fair Park until October 19

entrance to the museum/exhibit and parking is free 🫶🏽

Merriam-Webster defines colonialism as “control by one power over a dependent area of people.” It occurs when one nation takes control of another for benefits such as resources.

So let’s reflect on what’s happening:

First, resources (or human made work) are extracted from communities without any consent or compensation.

Next, those resources are essentially turned into privatized assets that are held by a very few number of (big tech) companies.

Finally, those companies turn around and determine how those resources are used, allocated, deemed valuable, and authentic.

And soon enough, access to information will only be made available for purchase (or behind a paywall).

The parallels, in my opinion, are clear.

hey so this is seriously detrimental for the city of Dallas

Data centers create what’s known as “heat islands,” meaning they can make the surrounding area SEVERAL degrees hotter; studies have found anywhere from about 3°F to 16°F hotter. Mind you, we are already seeing 100°+ temps

These facilities also need constant, uninterrupted power. So if the grid goes down, many rely on diesel backup generators, which can release harmful pollutants linked to breathing problems, heart and lung disease, and other health risks.

Also electricity. Al doesn’t just need a lot of power — it needs it 24/7. The challenge is whether our electrical grid can keep up with the demand.

The servers have to run around the clock, and because they generate enormous amounts of heat, massive cooling systems have to run nonstop too.

Al servers also consume significantly more electricity than many traditional servers, so as more Al infrastructure is built, electricity demand (and your electric bill) keeps rising.

Some companies have publicly stated that average citizens can expect to see a 6-8% increase in their electricity bill.

I encourage the City of Dallas to establish a formal Data Center Transparency Policy requiring all future large-scale data center developments to publicly disclose projected electricity demand, water consumption, greenhouse gas emissions, heat mitigation strategies, emergency response plans, infrastructure impacts, and economic analyses before permits are issued.

Remember — something only gets done if we actually attempt to do something about it.

I had the privilege to attend the @beyondbiohackingconference in Austin, where I had the opportunity to meet, connect, and interview some really inspiring entrepreneurs 🙏🏽

and if there’s one thing that really stuck with me out of all the interviews that I had, it’s that: you can buy all the tech tools and fancy gadgets in the world, but meditation is still one of most effective tools you have in your toolbox (AND IT’S FREE!)

as a founder myself, I can honestly say that meditation completely changed my life when I first got into it several years ago, and now I can’t imagine life without this practice — 🧘🏽‍♀️ 10/10 recommend xo

yesterday’s workshop with @ybskids was AMAZING 🔥

we didn’t just talk about AI — we actually got hands-on and used it!

we played around with it, built prompts, created websites, and we learned how AI can *actually* help students with school for things like projects, presentations, and even studying for exams

the coolest part was that these students have all already been using AI, but now they know how to use it BETTER 👏
