Another opening day duck season in the books, and it was a gorgeous one. A stunner of a sunrise made me realize the birds are just a bonus, but a limit of drake woodies is the cherry on top. Thankful for days like these and buddies who share the same passion.

My opening day sit of the 2026 bow season was an eventful one. Had this young 8 pointer work 2 scrapes, and then end up directly below my tree. He stood under me for minutes, completely oblivious that I was perched above him. After he finally walked away, I heard a branch break behind me and realized what it was that had his attention… 🦌
A 10 minute standoff at 40 yards with a branch in the way of his vitals ensured my season didn’t end on the same day it started. He sensed something wasn’t quite right, and refused to take those couple more steps I needed.
The deer woods are a special place to be.

Been a while since I waded a trout stream in the dark. It’s a pretty neat experience mixed with a hint of spookiness to be wading through the water in the pitch black while hearing critters moving around on the banks above you. Headlamps are nice, but unfortunately bugs are rather fond of them also… 🦟

Can’t believe how well it actually worked! Last year our neighbor had an oak tree fall down, so we got some spore from @northsporemushrooms and inoculated the logs. If anyone has any recommended shiitake recipes or wants some mushrooms let me know! by @jacksonbaumgart

A day in the redwoods realizing my love for this boy will grow taller than even the biggest redwood tree. Becoming a dad has been the most incredible blessing. taken in Henry Cowell Redwoods State Park by @jacksonbaumgart

Reminiscing on this epic day from a year ago catching limits of big sockeyes on the Kenai River.

Even in the heavy current the salmon were no match for @fish_n_mission with the @stcroixrods

I’ll always prefer sitting in a tree opposed to the ground when deer hunting, but I can see where this vis360 blind from @tidewe_official would be convenient especially for turkeys and young hunters. For this fall my old man will enjoy the comfort of it, and eventually it will be a great way to introduce Reed to hunting that is safe and masks movement while still being able to see in all directions.
