Today I met with AB InBev to discuss Bass and its future in Burton upon Trent 🔺

Whilst I can’t share much of what we discussed, what I will say is there is sadness across the board that Marston’s Brewery faces closure and because of Carlsberg’s decision we risk losing Bass from our town.

Bass and Pedigree are Burton icons. I’ll do all I can with others to keep them brewing here.

Even with the odds stacked against us I will not stop working to try and keep the brewery brewing in some form or another.

I have formed a ‘working group’ with other industry experts, local authorities and union reps for open and honest discussions on options from here.

The first meeting is next week and I will keep you all updated as much as I am able. by @jacobcolliermp

As promised I was bobbing to ask a question on Marston’s Brewery at PMQs today and…. it was a good leg workout if nothing else 💪

The planned closure is nationally significant, not just to Burton upon Trent, but to the entire industry. We deserve to be heard at the highest level.

We go again next week ✅ by @jacobcolliermp

I’ve been back in Parliament this week and continue to raise the future of Marston’s Brewery 🍺

I’ve been speaking with ministers, those from the brewery industry, Unite the Union, CAMRA and AB InBev on the future of Bass. This is ahead of my meeting with the Carlsberg CEO later this week.

I’ll be bobbing tomorrow at Prime Minister’s Questions and hope to be called by the Speaker to raise this directly with the Prime Minister 🤞

Again, if you work at Marston’s and have concerns following the news last week, please drop me an email on jacob.collier.mp@parliament.uk 📧 by @jacobcolliermp

Great to visit Burton Pirelli Performance Centre as they celebrate 10 years 🛞

Pirelli has been a fixture here in Burton since 1928 as the only tyre manufacturer in the UK, currently providing jobs for around 150 local people.

It was great to meet some of their team and hear about the work they do, and their relationship with Burton and South Derbyshire College. It’s important that future generations keep manufacturing skills in our town ⚙️

We also spoke about concerns regarding unregulated tyre fitting centres and second grade tyres causing deaths on our roads.

As part of the Road Safety Strategy, the Government is looking at tyre regulations, something which the team at Pirelli have been working to support from an industry perspective 🚗

Thanks to Nigel and the team for having me. by @jacobcolliermp

A pleasure to join @trentrowingclub today as they open their new Boathouse 🚣‍♂️

The recent Trent Duck Race, organised by Rachel, raised the £30k funds for this which will allow the Club to grow 🦆

A special touch for this to be named in honour of Rachel’s dad and former President John Hayward who did so much to promote the sport in Burton 🛶 by @jacobcolliermp

Great to join Burton’s @punchpubs on a visit to Gower with my MP colleague and Chair of the All Party Parliamentary Beer Group @toniaantoniazzimp 🍺

After a tour of @gowerbrewery, we visited several pubs across the constituency, showcasing perfectly the important place pubs have in communities, and why the industry is so special.

We had plenty of chance to speak with publicans and brewers about their unique businesses, the challenges they face, and what support the sector needs ahead of the budget.

The day ended in The Victoria Inn in Mumbles, where I was pleasantly surprised to find Bass being served. Very proud to be a Burtonian in that moment 🔺

As Chair of the APPG for Pubs and a member of the APPG for Beer, I will continue to work with Tonia, Punch Pubs and other industry experts to support pubs in Burton and Uttoxeter and across the country. by @jacobcolliermp
