Half term fun full of bikes, pals, bikes and more bikes. Even with the horrible weather and dark looking evenings, we managed to get in a bunch of riding.

Every time getting a little bit better, more confident and a little faster. All with a massive smile on his face and good company.

It’s nice to enjoy the last of the slightly milder weather before standing trackside means I won’t be able to feel my toes.

Sunday afternoon manual training and getting used to lifting up them handle bars. Going to try and practice this over the next few weeks to see the progression.

He did it. 🙌

After all the practice and determination, Jam has finally learnt how to stand up at the gate and go without any help.

This is something he’s really wanted to learn for such a long time, so seeing him finally do it this evening was such a proud moment.

I’m so proud of his dedication, resilience and enthusiasm. It’s not easy trying something new, especially when it feels scary, but the more you try, the more confident you become and the easier it gets.

I love that he’s found a sport he genuinely loves, where he’s built such a great little community of friends around him and is willing to keep learning, practising and getting better every day.

One new skill learnt, next to master it!

First awards night for Jamie since starting his bmx journey. Walked away with 1st place for the Gosport club series and a trophy bigger than him!

Big thank you to @gosportbmx for putting on a great evening, all the other riders that did so well, his coaches and his hero @m_e_s_1.

Help! BMX riders, we’d really appreciate some advice.

Jamie is keen to improve his jumping, but I’m struggling to work out exactly what he needs to change.

Watching this back, he looks quite low in the air, and his front wheel seems to land first. Is his weight too far forward? Should he lean back more or pull the bars up? Or might he find it easier on his 14-inch Park BMX because it’s smaller?

We have a manual trainer and a few ramps at home, so I’d be grateful for any practical drills he could practise away from the track.

I don’t want to be that parent giving instructions when I’m not even sure I’m right!

If you know your BMX, please have a watch and let me know what you think. What would you work on first?

Any advice from riders, coaches or fellow BMX parents would be massively appreciated. by @jam_hassell

Little upgrade for Speedy.

For those wondering, Speedy is the name of Jamie’s bike. Yes, he named him that himself.

The old pedals have been swapped out for some proper BMX pedals from @ice_fast that we picked up at the weekend. No idea where the old ones even came from!

You can definitely feel the difference in weight, although I’m not sure how much that matters when you’re 6 and just getting into the sport. Hopefully these will help him keep his feet on the pedals as he starts learning to jump and manual.

Although I reckon we’ll be seeing a few more chunks taken out of shins with these bad boys

Final heat at @knightwood_bmx_club 🏁

First time racing outside of his home track and Jamie came away with a 2nd place in his final heat! It’s also the first time he was able to put his gate starts to the test.

He was absolutely buzzing and we couldn’t be prouder. He’s been working so hard, learning new things and pushing himself every time he gets on his bike.

Plenty more to learn, but days like this make it all worth it. Just a 6 year old doing what he loves and having the best time doing it.

Bring on the next one @deepsouthbmx @gosportbmx

First race away from home track 🏁

Today was the first round of the @deepsouthbmx at @knightwood_bmx_club and Jamie’s first time racing somewhere other than his home track.

He came 2nd in his age group and was absolutely chuffed with himself. With the girls from the age above joining in, he finished 4th overall.

But the result was only part of it. He learnt so much today, from figuring out a new track and racing different riders to supporting his mates and looking out for each other.

So proud of him for giving it a go, pushing himself and taking it all in. A big first step and one he’s been so excited for.

On to the next one at @gosportbmx

Nice chilled ride down at a new pump track for us. Such a nice track, beautiful evening and great for working on pumping technique, something Jam wants to get better at. Can anyone guess the track?

Heard this was a great way to practice balancing without the use of gate. Worked a treat, and gave time to get the focus on the balance without the quickness of a gate dropping.

Bit of jump practice at the track, hoping the manual training will help with the confidence on these. Definality need to make the most of mild days.

Last Gosport race of 2026. Everyone raced so well and supported each other which we live in this sport. Followed by a great bbq. @gosportbmx
