Big news. I’m excited to share that I’ll be joining the team at @thatcherswine as managing director, starting this week!

Legend isn’t going anywhere. Though I won’t be as involved in the day-to-day of @auswinelegends, I’ll still be active in the development of the business as we continue to grow. Both @dj_gramenon and I are committed to the future of Legend, but we also are excited to continue to learn and grow in interesting directions in the industry. The opportunity with @thatcherswine allows me to take on a new challenge personally and professionally, as well as be part of a fantastic team with an incredible set of wineries.

SCS Bootcamp Day 2 - Jane Lopes - Ancient Barossa for the Modern Palate

Jane Lopes is a Nashville-based sommelier, author, and importer. After graduating from the University of Chicago in 2007, Lopes has built a career in the wine and hospitality industry that has spanned countries, decades, and disciplines. Lopes worked at New York’s Eleven Madison Park, Nashville’s The Catbird Seat, Chicago’s The Violet Hour, and most recently as the wine director at Attica, one of Australia’s most celebrated restaurants. In September of 2019, she finally put her literature degree to good use in publishing her first book, a personal and educational guide to wine called Vignette: Stories of Life and Wine in 100 Bottles. Through this book and other writings, Jane has written about issues in the wine industry, including mental and physical health, exploitation, sexual abuse, and corruption. In 2020, Lopes and her husband Jonathan Ross cofounded their Australian wine imports company, Legend. Her second book, How to Drink Australian (coauthored with her husband), was published in September 2023. Jane also proudly sits on the board of the nonprofit The Vinguard, which works to promote equity and sustainability in the wine industry. by @janeymaxine

This one means a lot to me. 🥹 My time at @uchicago was transformative; it created some of my best memories and fostered some of my greatest friendships.

My speech was quick and centered on encouraging people to keep drinking wine! This may seem like a somewhat frivolous request, especially with everything going on in the world right now, but I truly believe that the wine industry is worth protecting.

I’ve been proud to sit on the board of @thevinguard for the last few years, and this is our first even Nashville event!

The Vinguard and Co-Fermented are bringing Wine Flair, a unique celebration of LGBTQIA+ natural winemakers, to Nashville on April 15 in collaboration with our good friends at @mielrestaurant.

With LGBTQIA+ rights and protections under attack, representation matters more than ever. Luke Wylde from Lares/Statera and Oniyx Acosta of Commonwealth Crush will pour a selection of their wines, and we’ll have an array of wines made by queer winemakers from California (and Australia!) on pour.

$40/$30 food and beverage industry

Net proceeds will be used to support the work of @thevinguard and @co_fermented, as well as a portion donated to local LGBTQ+ organizations in Nashville.
