Excited to share that @petersonstoop , our artisanal studio dedicated to transforming used sneakers into beautifully crafted new ones, has been featured in The New York Times today!

IJmuidens #Quilt is een participatief kunstproject met bijdragen van circa 100 bewoners uit Velsen, ter ere van 150 jaar IJmuiden. De spandoeken die eerder boven het #spoorviaduct hingen, zijn samengebracht in een groot quilt dat de verbondenheid en trots van #IJmuiden verbeeld. Iedereen is welkom om bij te dragen aan de quilt door wat steekjes te zetten, garen en naainaalden zijn aanwezig. Initiatiefnemer Jarah Stoop is aanwezig om bezoekers te ontmoeten en over het project te vertellen.

The Quilt of IJmuiden is the result of more than a year of collaborative work. Created from iconic banners made by residents of IJmuiden. The project involved collecting, cutting, ironing, arranging, and sewing thousands of individual pieces into a single quilt nearly 20 metres long.

Made together with almost 100 participants, the quilt reflects the power of collective creativity. Each fragment carries a personal story, while the finished work celebrates what connects us: a shared sense of place, community, and pride in the 150 years of the city, the build of the North Sea Canal and its residents.

I recently launched a new project in my hometown of IJmuiden, transforming banners from IJmuiden’s entrance bridge into a giant handmade quilt. Together with local residents and businesses, I will create, design, document, and present this collaborative quilt blanket. Updates and information can be found at: www.ijmuidensquilt.nl.

The project is part of the official program celebrating 150 Years of IJmuiden and is supported by the Municipality of Velsen and @cultuurfonds by @jarahstoop
