“like a rumor” open at @super___house until October 17th

On the final day of Like a Rumor, we’re delighted to announce that Joël Brodovsky-Adams’s (catty) jug has been acquired by the Museum of Arts and Design.

The jug’s vivid glaze takes inspiration from the perspective-defying pattern of a Barragán Speedo, translating its optical play and curve-conscious geometry into ceramic.

Thank you to the Museum of Arts and Design (@madmuseum) and Elissa Auther (@eauther) for bringing this work into the collection, and to Joël for creating it.

Final week to see Like a Rumor, Joël Brodovsky-Adams’s debut solo exhibition at Superhouse, on view through Saturday, October 17.

Bringing together sculpture, lighting, and objects, Like a Rumor explores the gestures, codes, and material language of queer identity, transforming familiar domestic forms into works that are at once playful, intimate, and subversive.

Read Michael Bullock’s full essay on the exhibition and Joël’s practice, and explore works on view at the link in bio.

Three of my favorite things about Joël Brodovsky-Adams’s new show, Like A Rumor? It’s inspired by clubbing; there’s a glaze pattern based on an archival @eckhaus_latta sweater; the wall of schlongs—er, wall hooks. (“It’s a handbag!”)

So proud of this one and so grateful to @jbaceramics and @super___house for being so open and trusting. I broke nothing! But did get very dusty. Show closes 10/17 so make haste!! taken in New York, New York by @jbaceramics

Thrilled to see Joël Brodovsky-Adams named One to Watch in the October issue of Architectural Digest (@archdigest).

In “Because the Night,” Maya Ibbitson visits Joël’s Brooklyn studio and explores the music, queer club culture, and wheel-thrown process behind his current solo exhibition at Superhouse, Like a Rumor.

“I wanted a feast of textures and colors.”

The limp wrist has long been treated as a tell—a gesture read as too feminine, too expressive, too much. Boys learn to stiffen it, disciplining the body before it gives them away.

In Joël Brodovsky-Adams’s installation of wheel-thrown ceramic Limp Hooks, that gesture is enlarged and multiplied across the wall. The hooks droop, curl and reach; what was once policed becomes ornamental, functional and defiantly visible. Softness, repeated, takes up space.

Available as an installation or individually. Contact us at hello@superhouse.us for availability and pricing.

Now on view: Joël Brodovsky-Adams, Like a Rumor, through October 17.

Through wheel-thrown ceramic vessels, lighting, and installation, Brodovsky-Adams considers how queer identity is carried through gesture—how a body can bend, bulge, pose, and refuse restraint.
