POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED
@iclimbwalz put together this world travel + climb map for our travels the past year and a half. His work is incredible and I have to add a plug for his digital artistry.

This 15-month sabbatical transformed Jeff and my sport climbing (and really our overall relationship with rock climbing) at a quantum level. We both progressed our max grade from 5.12a to 5.13a, exactly as we set out to do from the start! 🥳

Celebration and numbers aside, projecting turned out to be much more of a mental roller coaster than I expected. It asked for a real mindset shift, learning to find beauty and creativity in the process and fall in love with the sport all over again. I’m so grateful we had each other to support this wild ride.

Feeling a lot of love for all the beautiful people and places climbing has brought into our lives, and for the ways it keeps helping us grow and connect. After 13 years of climbing, it’s still more interesting and exciting than ever. ☺️ by @jeff_t_wright

Super fun weekend of multi-pitching with @ilia.slobodov and @marius_w88 in Red Rocks 🎉🎉. I’ve decided I’m only going to make posts from now on if I’m climbing with @ilia.slobodov 😅

We spent Labor Day weekend going for a long walk in the spectacular Wind River Range just outside our doorstep with our best friend @ilia.slobodov. 🥳

For a gentle reintroduction back into alpine climbing, we summited 9 of the 12 peaks along the Cirque of the Towers Traverse in a day. We purposefully skipped the popular first three peaks (Pingora to Wolfs Head), starting at Overhanging Tower then traversing over many peaks and ending at Warbonnet Peak. I’m definitely not in alpine shape to try to attempt the full traverse just yet. 😅 This rig is massive! It’s been many years since I’ve been so exhausted. Thanks for getting us away from the crag for a weekend Ilia! 🧗 taken in Wind River Range, WY by @jeff_t_wright

Sitting in a random cute cafe in Southern France in July with the ubiquitous sound of cicadas, we pondered what would be our next phase of life now that our Sabbatical has ended. We both got remote jobs but we have to be in the USA. We racked our brains for all the requirements for our next place to live. We could have lived anywhere in the entire US but ended up settling on…Lander WY 🤠

We’re excited to settle down for a bit and focus on training, working, and nurturing healthy habits. Lander hosts world class climbing and you can find primo climbing conditions somewhere nearby year round (I can’t think of anywhere in the entire world that can say the same).

Great bouldering, sport climbing, and alpine climbing (Wind River Range and Tetons). The town is super cute with a vibrant community of outdoor enthusiasts (NOLS is headquartered here for example).

It also is unique in all the world with Steve Bechtel’s amazing gym @elemental_performancefitness @climb.strong. We’re locked in with a great coach @_j.carr_ and we’re going to focus a bit more on sport climbing for the time being. It’s sad to say goodbye to Seattle 😢 💦 but looking forward to new adventures. taken in Lander, Wyoming by @jeff_t_wright

Malaysia… the surprise winner and final stop on the World Tour. 🌎 We were not expecting to absolutely fall in love with everything about Malaysia, the people, the culture, the food, the city, the climbing. It was totally off our radar until @climbing_backpackers turned us on to this magical place.

We stayed in Kuala Lumpur for almost three months. We fell so hard for this city that we kept extending our stay. It’s one of the few places we visited that we could actually move to! Felt more like Home than anyplace else outside the US. And we didn’t even scratch the surface of what this country had to offer. 🫶 taken in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia by @jeff_t_wright

We took a spontaneous trip to Bali for a few days (which was not on the itinerary!) once we found out the IFSC World Cup was taking place here. Just a few hour flight from Malaysia so we couldn’t pass the chance to attend our first World Cup and see Erin McBeast 🇬🇧 and Sam Watson 🇺🇸 win gold!

We also got to check out many other spots on the island. I don’t know what I was expecting from Bali, but it’s not some place I think we’ll come back to, if I’m being completely honest. It’s one of the most densely packed places I’ve ever been (including India!) and the tourism seems overly disruptive 🤷‍♂️.

The water purification, however, was absolutely profound 🙏.

Just spent two weeks on Cat Ba Island, Vietnam 🇻🇳
We mostly went to go sport climbing at Butterfly Valley and Priti sent her first 5.13a! 🥳
We also got a chance to try out Deep Water Soloing for the first time. @catbaclimbing is a great tour operator! taken in Cat Ba Island by @jeff_t_wright

Green Climbers Home (2 of 2) ✨✨
One of the EXTRA special and unique things about GCH is THE ROOF crag. This is an amazing limestone horizontal roof with wild features and body-sized tubes that are completely disorienting. Grades in the roof range from 6b+ to 7c+. The grades don’t get super high in the roof because there are massive jugs and holes and knee bar rests every where. Plus all the routes are perma-drawed!

Our favorite climb in the Roof was a popular climb called Jungle King (7b/5.12b) which we were really proud to send because it was such a different style of climbing than anything I’ve ever climbed before.

Green Climbers Home (1 of 2) ✨✨
Located in a magical, remote valley in central Laos, this unique climbers retreat, located 30min from the town of Thakek, is one of the most special places we’ve visited all year. Many climbers stay here for months at a time (or even the whole season!), and two weeks was certainly not enough time.

You can rent a private Bungalow, dorm bed, or a kitted-out tent depending on your budget. There is no WiFi here (probably on purpose!) and cell service is extremely spotty, making it a cleansing digital detox and a really cool atmosphere with more socializing, board games, and self-organized group activities like yoga, dance parties, beer crate stacking games, movie nights, and workshops. We made more friends here than anywhere else we’ve visited! PS: Priti won the crate-stacking competition, stacking 18 beer crates!

I’m so impressed with the Camp 1 owners, Fai and Tom, who have cultivated this place as an international climbing destination, building on the momentum of the previous owners. We first heard about Green Climbers Home from our Seattle friend @pnwscott who kept telling us for years that we HAD to come here!

Thank you GCH for the wonderful memories and the many amazing people we were blessed to meet! The climbing is world-class and has a huge variety of climbing styles and over 500 routes of all levels to keep you busy. Highly recommend GCH as a climbing destination in and of itself, not just as a side trip if you’re in Asia.

My favorite sends here were Little Forces (7c/5.12d) and Bloody Mary (7c/5.12d). So many unfinished projects to come back here for. Priti also sent Bloody Mary! taken in Green Climbers Home by @jeff_t_wright

Chiang Mai is a wonderfully exotic city in far Northern Thailand with warm, welcoming people, beautiful landscapes, and amazing climbing.

🧗 Crazy Horse Buttress is about 45min drive outside the city with an iconic promontory shaped like a bucking horse and massive caves with the ‼️wildest multi-pitch I have ever climbed!

The Anxiety State Crisis cave is an 80m tall cave that climbs three pitches from the bottom of its monstrous pit before traversing across its horizontal roof (7a/5.11d), escaping through a porthole and finally rappelling back to the bottom.

While Chiang Mai is generally pretty hot 🔥 year round, there is plenty of shade to chase on its external walls and and natural A/C inside the cave on the hottest days.

We also enjoyed a visit from Priti’s parents, taking a Thai cooking class and visiting the local temples 🥘 🙏 ❤️ taken in Crazy Horse Buttress by @jeff_t_wright
