Three months of calling Texas our home. 💛 At the end of June, over seemingly endless drives and flights and visits to Love’s Travel Stop (bless), we began the process of relocating from the 812 to the 940. It’s been stressful. It’s been expensive. It’s been hot (but less humid!). It’s been a wild adventure with the people I care about the most. And I’ve loved it all.

Uprooting from the area I’d known for 42 years was certainly strange. There are faces and places I miss deeply, and Bloomington is still in my system in some ways. I could drive through that city blindfolded. I yearn for a TroHo gyro and had a dream last night about going to Soma for a Red Hottie (it’s not even February!).

But this place is feeling like home, too. I love the smell of the air and the scrubby green-brown landscape and the live oak and pecan trees. We’re finding our communities and our regular spots. Denton is wonderfully weird and eclectic, and we’re just close enough to and far away from Dallas. There is plentiful coffee and thrifting. The food is amazing. The people are welcoming. Downtown parking is FREE.

We’re still working on a sense of equilibrium, and we’ll get there. And! In the midst of all of this, Mal had the extra whammy of going away to college, an exciting but disorienting adventure of its own. So excited to have this badge of honor again. 💪🥲 When I first dropped in to @themvmtlab_gym a little over a year ago, I knew it was gonna be my place once we relocated to Denton. I wasn’t wrong.

CrossFit/functional fitness gyms are known for their supportive, inclusive communities (if yours isn’t, you need to find a new gym). That begins with the coaching staff. I don’t claim to know everything, and I’m just an okay athlete. But coaching is my way of giving back to the community that has done so much for me. If I can help one other person discover how strong they can truly become, then my time and effort are worth it.

I’m so grateful to the gyms I’ve loved before (@full_house_fitness and @crossfit_bloomington) and to @andrea_fullhousefitness who first believed in me. Thank you to @mvmtjd.coach and @pinetreesplease for bringing me on and to all my fellow coaches for welcoming me into the fold. 🧡43🧡 I may have spent most of this birthday traveling for work, but I still got to sweat at @themvmtlab_gym this morning and had a delicious dinner with my colleagues and ended the night with a Disney cupcake! I also had zero food poisoning, which already makes this a significant improvement from my last birthday.

Indiana trip latergram. 🌽☀️ Long cemetery walks, family time, moving my middle baby to college. It’s a little strange and bittersweet to now think of “visiting” the state where I spent the first 43 years of my life. Texas feels more and more like home, but part of me will always be a Hoosier. by @jennlarmstrong
