This one has always felt special to me. Featured here, Noah and his former bas player, Jus James sharing a laugh on stage during that first headline tour. I shot this on film and it captures something I don't think any of us realized we were witnessing at the time. Looking back, these nights would become impossible to recreate. The room was small and hot, packed shoulder to shoulder. A certain kind of raw coziness. It was just Noah, his band, the fans, and the music.

I'm grateful I got to witness it.

Back in 2018, before the arenas, before the headlines, before so many people knew his name. I took this photo of Noah Kahan when he was still opening tours, and what stayed with me wasn't the size of the crowd, it was this moment. The way he seemed to disappear into his own music. Completely present, completely somewhere else at the same time.

There's an innocence to this image that still strikes me today. A quiet pensiveness. The kind of honesty you can't pose for and can't manufacture. It's one of those photographs that has meant more to me with every passing year. Some things change. Some moments don't.

I am honored to once again be showing some of my work at @gig_theartofmusic this weekend at @soundsandsightschelsea I’ll also be speaking on a panel tomorrow with some of my favorite humans @chrissimpsonmi @anniecapps and @fanswithbands999

If you’re out on the West Side of Ann Arbor this weekend, pop over to the Gig tent. There are so many talented photographers showcasing their work!

I’m particularly excited to share a series of three prints this year. In light of @noahkahanmusic blowing up and taking the universe by storm with a sold out stadium tour, a netflix documentary, and a million other accolades, I’ve opted to share three photographs I took that tell his story in his early years. I’ll post the three images this weekend. It’s surreal to see someone you love go from being an opening act that nobody heard of when you’d talk about them, to selling out Fenway Park 4 consecutive nights in a row. It couldn’t have happened to a more deserving artist and I will forever hold close the memories of getting to photograph many of his early shows.
