In 1903, Isabella Stewart Gardner received this 18th Century viola d'amore as a gift from her friend, composer Charles Loeffler, to celebrate the opening of her museum. You can see it on display in the Yellow Room - and on October 4, you can hear Rachel Barton Pine play it on WCRB In Concert! We took a trip to the Museum to learn more about this amazing instrument.

The first single, AlHubbu Dini (Love is My Religion) الحُبُّ دِينِي وِإِيمَانِي, from my forthcoming album, Ashwaaq, is out today! This is the sixth movement of a seven-movement work for voice, string quartet, and santur, set to poems from the revered 13th-century Sufi mystic Ibn Arabi’s Turjuman Al-Ashwaq (Translator of Desires).

Both the poetry and music are very dear to my heart, and I am honored to be working with the great vocalist from Aleppo, Khaled AlHafez, as well as Naseem AlAtrash on cello, my sister, Dena El Saffar, on viola, and violinists Megan Gould and Eylem Basaldi.
