The lava is rising again...😮‍💨

𝐌𝐀𝐆𝐌𝐀 joins forces with the 𝐀𝐟𝐠𝐀𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐂𝐨𝐥𝐥𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐞 for a night of solidarity.

The evening opens with a discussion on “Borders of Violence: Afghanistan, Pakistan, Balochistan, Colonialism, and Displacement,” followed by a performance (tbc), and then the DJs take over the dancefloor.

On the decks:

🌋 @jet.asti b2b @farhadbal0ch
🌋 @tempestfeather
🌋 @8legang (djran)
🌋 @nthra_music b2b Genosse Zeit
🌋 @sauvage_berlinoise

A community kitchen will keep everyone energized, and we’ll put together a special drink menu for the occasion.

We’re happy to be welcomed by 𝐁𝐥𝐨𝐜𝐤𝟏, our cozy home for the night. There will also be a little chillout area outside the venue if you need a rest.

All the money we raise will support a comrade’s family who are being evacuated from Pakistan.

🎟️ Ticket link is in our bio ✨

Much ❤️
𝐌𝐀𝐆𝐌𝐀

Ps: If money is a barrier, we have a small number of community tickets available. Write to us at 𝟎𝟑𝟎.𝐦𝐚𝐠𝐦𝐚@𝐠𝐦𝐚𝐢𝐥.𝐜𝐨𝐦 by @jet.asti

Dear fellow autumn survivors,
If the cold has already found its way into your bones and you’re longing for shelter from the downpour of melancholy, or if you’re warm enough to share a little of that warmth—come to majal this Saturday.
Join us for a little gathering to stock up on passion and heat, in preparation for the sly, sneaky cold that’s been creeping in these days. After all, winter is coming, and we refuse to face it underheated.

I have come
to take your living hands in place of autumn’s dead claws.
I have come, fresher than each new day, to seek you through your forehead, which rises higher than the downpour.
I want to begin again.

Bijan Elahi (1945-2010)

Save the date, the program will follow soon ✨

Salam! Part of my recent work with @turningtablesgermany has been in support of the Afghan diasporic community…DJ workshops, recording sessions and infrastructure.

While producing podcasts and radio with the Sarkash Underground crew I’ve learned so much more about their mission, their message, their cultural and political heritage - and the struggles behind. Tashakor!

This Saturday, 1st of August, they are bringing @sarkash.festival to Berlin-Kreuzberg. Go, show up and support. Turning Tables are further supporting with workshops for the next generation of culture creators in Farsi, German and English.

The 2 hour long @refugeworldwide show with music, DJ set and interviews has been uploaded to their soundcloud after airing last Monday. Much love to the Refuge team for the work you do - both in your physical space in Berlin-Neukölln and across the digital airwaves.

SARKASH سرکش UNDERGROUND TAKE-OVER

Ahead of Sarkash سرکش Underground on 1 August we dive into the festival celebrating rap, trap, and experimental sounds from Afghanistan, Balochistan, and Kashmir. Sarkash is dari for „rebellious“ and “defiant”.

In the first half, co-founders Zolfar Hassib (@jet.asti) and Armeghan Taheri (@worldwideweb300) reflect on the political significance of music at a time when it is banned in Afghanistan, while also showcasing the artists featured in the festival’s line-up. Later, Zolfar is joined by Farhad Bal0ch (@farhadbal0ch), who gives us a sneak peek of their set, weaving together and connecting the worlds they carry into their sound. Enjoy!

𝗧𝗢𝗗𝗔𝗬 𝗔𝗧 𝟭𝟮𝗣𝗠 𝗧𝗨𝗡𝗘 𝗜𝗡 𝗔𝗧 𝗥𝗘𝗙𝗨𝗚𝗘 𝗥𝗔𝗗𝗜𝗢 𝗫 𝗦𝗔𝗥𝗞𝗔𝗦𝗛 𝗫 𝗔𝗥𝗜𝗔 𝗞𝗛𝗔𝗟𝗜𝗟

Ahead of Sarkash سرکش Underground on 1 August we sat down in the studio at @refugeworldwide to dive deep into the festival. In the first half, Zolfar Hassib @jet.asti and Armeghan Taheri @worldwideweb3000 reflect and showcase artists from the festival as well as discuss how music can live and survive and thereby sustain conditions in which collective imagination and dreams can grow and refuse narratives of hopelessness.

Later, Zolfar is joined by sound artist and composer Aria Khalil @ariakhalil.official , whose work reimagines Afghan music through experimentation, archival recordings, and heavy bass. Aria speaks on his journey from broadcasting a generation of independent voices and underground rap in Herat and Kabul to his current practice in Berlin.

Introducing one of our founders: Zolfar is a licensed architect, project manager/coordinator, event manager and DJ. She works in the intersection of multidisciplinary art & empowerment, giving anti-racism workshops and seminars. Zolfar is one of the co-founder of Sarkash سرکش Underground, ⅓ of ShurCollective & is a board member of Rosha e.V. Her primary work lies in amplifying marginalized communities’ voices whilst uplifting them.

For Zolfar, Sarkash Underground Festival is a call to action: pulling the underground scene out of the shadows to build a future that is radically progressive & unapologetically collective.

Introducing the team of Sarkash سرکش Underground born from a collective impulse and shared vision to make something exist that wasn’t there before and to do it on our own terms.

For us, it is a defiant act of imagination, necessity and care for our music and for what it means to create, to transform, to resist, and to remain deeply human.
Together, we’re building the kind of festival we’d been searching for - and soon, it belongs to you.

From us, to you.

Over the coming days, you’ll get to know the team behind Sarkash: @jet.asti @worldwideweb3000 @baranrosemah @xrt00 @fairyintheflesh

Stay tuned 🖤
