Starting my fitness and nutrition journey.

Look I know that sounds very pretentious but I’m mid 40s now and my body is changing. Recovery is taking longer, 28 years in the trade has had an impact on my body and my diet and nutrition hasn’t been the best.

I’m not fat nor thin either but I’ve honed my body to be fit at working and not generally fit.

With the help of @workhousemalton and supported by @tradesman.nutrition my aim is to be fitter. I’m not looking for perfection but I need to carve out time for me which includes my fitness. by @jgdecorator

Occasionally I’m asked whether dustless sanding is worth investing in. Yes! It’s honestly a game changer and revolutionised the way I do the most important aspect of my work. Imagine all this dust in the air, in my lungs and on my work. With a setup you can produce thorough prep to surfaces and keep the work environment clean. @festool_uk @festool #dustlesssanding #dustless #cleanworkspace #cleanwork #painter #decorator #interiordecorating by @jgdecorator

The Golden Finish Awards 2026

What an amazing evening!

Credit to @angiemonroe.co @rdppaintersanddecorators @paintwarrior_ @tasha_tingley for having the vision and creating THE stand out event of the decorating calendar.

I truly feel that the trade is having a renaissance and that all who attended last night are the leaders in the field.

It was a privilege to be part of the judging team for this inaugural awards. I’m not going to lie and say it was easy with most evenings spent reading inspirational testimonials and viewing work that left me both humbled and inspired.

It was an absolute joy to see people I look up to and now call friends win deserved awards. @colourcoatedrestorations @wkpd1986 @mr.golden_hands @bsa.decor

Though with all the glitz and glamour it pales compared to @claire79graham in a killer dress. Couldn’t keep my eyes (or hands) off her. by @jgdecorator

Testing out the new #RollerWash from @washboxglobal

I was very impressed with the design of this especially the ability to wash 12”-18” sleeves.

Took about 2.5 mins and roughly 3 litres of water to clean.

At #JGDecorator, we use the @repair_care_international_uk resin system to deliver durable, long-lasting repairs to timber surfaces. This advanced epoxy resin technology allows us to restore decayed or damaged wood without the need for full replacement, preserving the original character and integrity of your property.

The process begins by removing all unsound timber, followed by the application of a specialist primer that stabilises the remaining wood. We then use the Repair Care resin to rebuild and shape the missing sections, forming a strong, flexible bond that moves naturally with the timber. Once cured, the surface is sanded smooth and finished with a high-performance paint system for complete protection and a flawless appearance.

The result is a seamless, sustainable, and cost-effective solution—perfect for window frames, doors, sills, and other exterior joinery where longevity and quality are key.

Testing the @washboxglobal RollerWash.

The one thing I do like about this is that it’s able to accommodate the larger-sized roller sleeves.

Let’s see how long it takes to wash but more importantly how much water it takes to clean? by @jgdecorator

Meet Vincent the Vacuum.

Cementing my geek credentials I’ve added a robot hoover to my aids in keeping my work areas clean.

With using surface floor protection on my projects using this type of cleaner works really well.

Whether it’s the carpet protection or one of the branded card floor protections this little machine keeps the work site clean after I’ve finished for the day. by @jgdecorator

Air scrubbers and @woosterbrushuk Dust Eaters.

Always important to dry clean your @woosterbrushcompany dust eater. Protecting the fibres from wet washing and keeping them good for the next clean up stage before painting.

Rough and Ready Site review of the @foldisheet

My first Paint Nerd approved review getting a well deserved recommendation.

Would like to see a version with anti slip dots for walkways on tiles/wooden flooring.

A great product that combines the benefits of cotton and plastic sheeting. by @jgdecorator

A wonderful day of having @marniwinna work along with me on my current interior project. She’s shown interest in getting into the trade of Painting and Decorating.

I crafted a day which showcased #ppe, pre preparation, preparation, filling and painting. She did an amazing job and picked up aspects of the work very easily. She used my @festool @festool_uk setup along with @toupretuk and @smig_uk

We finished with painting with @woosterbrushuk @woosterbrushcompany with thanks to them for a nice goodie bag for her to keep.

Thanks to Jack of @jwadecorating for helping set this day up for her. by @jgdecorator

Repairing filled spot lights.

On my current interior project 5 spotlights are being simplified into two downward pendant lights. Covering the table area this transformation will add a little intimacy when entertaining guests and dining as a family.

Repairs have included plaster inserts to the holes, patch repair kits to add strength and final skim coats using the @smig_uk A2 finishing filler.
